Partner tested positive…

Hi everyone

So my partner had a temperature this morning and I burst into tears when the the lateral flow test he did came back positive. Mine and my sons test was negative but I assume this may change in the next few days due to sleeping next to each other prior to knowing he was positive and with no ventilation at all.

According to the guidance I should still go to work as normal and my son to school! This seems really strange and I am concerned about passing it on but I also don’t want to isolate from now if I then test positive in a week and have to isolate for even longer.

Hate the uncertainty and the unknown of how this may affect us all and our health.

I don’t know what the point of my post is I am just so anxious, Anyone else in a similar position?

Xxx

Also - I’ve only had one Covid jab due to having the worst anxiety of my life afterwards. One of my side effects were dizzy spells and it happened whilst driving. This then caused me to have major anxiety and panic attacks whilst driving to the point I had to pull over and called an ambulance / it was truly awful. I hadn’t been able to bring myself to have the second vaccine Confused

Do you think I will have some level of protection having the 1 jab?

You sound so anxious, I'm sorry. It isn't inevitable that you or your DS will catch it. Over the last 18 months I have know about 15 families where there has been a case of covid, and in only 2 of those cases did everyone in the house get it. In many, no-one else caught it. DD had it and I isolated with her (slept with her) and I didn't catch it; nor did DH or DD2 but we stayed away from them.

Your immunity will depend on when you had the first jab and which one it was, but being double jabbed and then having a booster will massively increase your protection.

I’m in Scotland and was in contact with a case (in a car for quite a while) but don’t live with them. I knew the rules kept changing but I got a text informing me I was a close contact (already knew and had already been for what I believed to be a voluntary PCR for my own sake) but the text said I was to self isolate for 10 days or until a negative PCR if fully vaccinated. I’m off work on mat leave so I’m not really up to speed with it all but last time I checked there were not only close contacts but members of the same household still going to work when their partner was positive so I’ve really lost track of it all now

You have to self isolate as you havent had 2nd jab

As others have said, you aren’t fully vaccinated so have to self isolate. The first jab offers some protection but obviously not as much as both. Chances are you will be ok though. We have it in our house atm and it’s just been like a bad cold for DC, like a regular cold for me.

As you’re not vaccinated you must isolate, your son however can attend school unless he develops symptoms or has a positive lft.

My son caught it in February, me and my husband did daily lfts and we were both positive two days later, this was then confirmed with PCR. If you’re otherwise healthy it hopefully won’t be any worse than a bad cold if you do catch it.

If you and your DP are isolating I’m not sure you’re able to take your son to school? We have Covid right now, 1 parent and 1 DC positive. The other parent and DC still negative a week later. We are hopeful but don’t know what to expect.

If you only have one vaccine, was it several months ago? I can’t imagine it will offer much protection. Perhaps you could contact GP to ask about new antiviral treatment that is due out?

You have to isolate as others have said because you're not fully vaccinated.

But also if you test positive I would assume you still need to isolate for a period from that date too not just when you started isolating because if your DH. But you would have to check the guidance on that.

You have to isolate as you are not fully jabbed, but your son can go to school if you have another way of getting him there as you and DH cannot leave the house. Also it will be advised that you and your son get PCR tests done.
