Covid

If you've been a close contact, when do test and trace contact?

Positive case at primary school, parents notified this afternoon (after school). School have said its out of her hands now and test and trace will be in touch if necessary.

Does anyone know how long this takes? It's a very small school, with teachers moving between classes. I think its a teacher who has tested positive

Test & trace don’t contact any school contacts ime. They don’t even tell the school there’s a case.

Test and trace will only contact you if the person (parent) who’s tested positive names your child as a contact and provides your contact details.

Looking at threads on here, some parents are refusing to give contact details for any school contacts/friends, not too sure why as T&T won’t do anything with the info other than try to contact them to advise them what to do. So I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for a call.

PHE get involved if it’s deemed as an outbreak.

As a contact you would be advised to get a pcr test for your child, they wouldn’t have to isolate unless they have symptoms or test positive of course.

Thank you, well the other parents won't have my contact details. If its a teacher they will. School have said its up to T & T. Il assume we carry on as normal then!

We’ve had loads of close contact through school since the beginning of term. Not had a single call from test and trace.

a teacher wont have your contact details. The school will but the teacher will be at home and the school doesn't get involved.

You can book a pcr by saying you are a close contact and then you found out another way when you book.

T&T do contact schools, or they did last year.

Contact Wednesday, symptoms Friday, confirmed by Monday, T&T midweek, 4 days to isolate - over Christmas!

There's no longer the requirement to isolate (unless over 16 and not double vaccinated) so I'd guess test and trace won't be contacting close contacts any more.

In our experience over the past few weeks, they won’t!
If you suspect one of your household has been a close contact, it would be a good idea to do LFT’s every day before school (not advice that T&T gave us but requested by school) and a PCR on days 2 and 8 after the contact (this was the advice given to us by T&T in the first week of term - but they didn’t contact us until day 5!).
Since we had that 1 contact, we know from talking to friends that our kids have definitely been close contacts (sat beside kids for 3 hours in school) but never been contacted by T&T again !

You won’t be contacted by T&T if the parents of the child that tests positive doesn’t give your details - T&T won’t know otherwise

Since PHE have taken the requirement for schools to provide the details away tt&t are solely relying on the parents to give details of any contact.

Crazy I personally don’t understand why it is not the schools providing the info.

They don’t anymore it changed in August sometime.

PHE will contact the schools if there is an outbreak.

I worked on the desk next to someone who tested positive at work. She said she called track and trace and gave my name because I needed them to provide the code for the covid grant as I then had to isolate from work (unpaid, unable to work from home). They never contacted me, I followed up and they said they would be in touch if necessary, they wouldn't give a code and I couldn't go to work.

Don't hold your breath. I suspect they've secretly closed down.

My daughter tested positive today T&T have phoned me 3 times….. unfortunately where I work is a black spot for reception. As a contact of someone I think it was their day 3. Was told to get a pcr but carry on as normal unless come back positive.

I work for test and trace in wales and it depends on what information we've been given from the schools. Generally if it's primary we have the whole class, but if it's secondary we only have the names of people they have sat next to but it's given to us by the parents not the school, so if the child isn't sure of their contact number or address/ DOB then we don't contact them. We don't call parents of younger children unless we aren't sure how old they are, you're likely to get a text message saying they don't have to isolate and recommending a PCR test. Not sure if it's the same everywhere but that's what it is for us at the moment.

So it turns out it's 3 positive tests in a class of 20. Children not teachers. No one has been contacted as far as I know. Dc1 is still coughing from the last cold (tested negative 3 weeks ago) so I may go for a test today.

If it’s a primary school, kids will be moving about all the time and unlikely to be sat beside the same few kids all day.
It sounds as if track and trace won’t contact you and the rest of the class will continue to attend as normal unless they develop symptoms.
What exactly is the point of track and trace anymore?!

In primary it’s safe to assume all children are close contacts, and probably worth getting a pcr.

Though dd tested positive as a close contact this week (from school) - we tested because school let us know there were cases in the class. Test & trace will not contact you unless any of the positive children’s parents have given your details (as in, phone number, full name, dob etc etc) - very unlikely. She has had zero symptoms throughout. I kind of wish we hadn’t bothered testing because there are loads of other children in that class with likely Covid but because they haven’t bothered testing they aren’t locked in their houses for 11 days.

My DD10 tested positive this week. Test and Trace just wanted the name of her school. They weren't interested in names of classmates she sits next to etc.

I took it on myself to tell people so that they can make an informed choice over their own dc and getting a test.

We have 5 positives in a class of 28 atm that I know of. School hasn’t said anything and T&T haven’t been in touch either ( although would just be to advise PCR I guess). My other child’s class has 3 that I know of ( primary)

Test and trace weren’t interested in knowing any of my ds’s school contacts. I was quite shocked/surprised.

I got a call midweek from them. It will have been from the children in my class who had tested positive the week before. In wales we get asked to PCR on day 2 and day 8 and they were calling to ask me to test on day 8...which was only a couple of days later than the call.
