To think that unvaccinated people whining about rights and freedoms when they can’t go to a concert

Are entitled? I am so sick of hearing the vaccine hesitant / covid deniers say that it makes no difference if you’re vaccinated, so they should be allowed to go around doing exactly what they want even though they don’t care about the effects on other people or don’t believe the virus exists.

The government has not said that they will restrict medical treatments or impose financial penalties on people who don’t get vaccinated. I wouldn’t agree with that. That would be taking away rights.

But I personally don’t think that it’s a god given right to attend clubs, theatres and to go on holiday if you refuse to comply with health measures at the height of a pandemic.

it's weird, because I don't have a single person like that in my real world social contacts nor do I get exposed to them online (not on MN, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn...) Not one denier & I can only think of one vaccine hesitant person (she actually was vaccinated but regrets it)

I do however hear/see LOTS of angry condemnation of the unvaccinated:

"They should be denied medical treatment"
"Vaccines should be mandatory"
"They are beneath contempt!"
"Oh well, if they won't be vaccinated then it's just a natural consequence if they lose their job"
"I'm sick of the covidiots!"

etc.

No matter how much I snooze or mute or unfollow, still this crap pops into my time lines. It's frustrating when you can't filter out the intolerant ignorance. Sadly my D-dad is one of the people spouting half of that stuff, I try hard to talk about something else with him.

My daughters dad is a covid denier 🙄 that’s why I hear it so much (whether I want to or not)

You might not see it but they might on their facebook. I see a lot of it. Name calling those who are vaccinated, calling nurses who are doing the vaccination programme the most horrific names and hoping they will stand trial for murder apparently.

I work with a couple so hear of them and their non-vaccinated friends regularly. One colleague has just had Covid, been really quite poorly although not hospitalised and one of the friends (man, early 40s, no health conditions but overweight) has just died leaving a wife and two young children.
I have heard a lot about their rights but nothing at all about any responsibility towards others. I agree there should be restrictions if you choose not to follow medical advice

@IvorHughJarrs I heard of an identical situation regarding a man in his early 40s with 2 young children. Unvaccinated & caught Covid at Wembley.

I worry that my daughters dad will catch it and get very ill. He's 52 so not young. Even though he's an idiot I still care about him.

All covid passports do is make the conspiracy nuts bleat on about Nazi Germany and likening themselves to Jewish people.

I do think there are genuine civil liberty issues with vaccine passports, especially in places like Ireland where you now need some kind of passport to go to a coffee shop.

I think it is totally reasonable to make front line health workers be vaccinated but not so sure about commercial premises.

100% agree @Itsnotover I know several anti vaxxers who have only just recently got the vaccine because it was going to interfere with their holidaying/travelling/concert going.

A few people I know haven't had it/have refused it, and are now pissing and moaning that they can't go to this show and that concert etc etc. Boohoo cry me a river! Get the vaccine then!

Their freedom and choices end when they start to affect others, IMO. If a large enough % choose not to be, then we're back at square one (no herd immunity) and that affects everybody.
Consequence- they can't go to places where they are likely to be in close contact with a large amount of people.
Seems fair to me.

The situation has changed. It’s now a war on the unvaccinated. The vast vast majority of people ill in hospital are unvaccinated. Even if numbers rise as long as the majority are unvaccinated the general vaccinated population won’t care. They certainly won’t tolerate restrictions to protect the unvaccinated. The only people I know who are unvaccinated are uneducated idiots.

In France, you need a health pass to access bars, restaurants, shopping malls, leisure and cultural venues with over 50 people, campsites, holiday accommodation as well as long distance travel on trains, coaches and planes.

I can't personally really understand why people would NOT take a vaccine that would make the chances of you becoming seriously ill very small.

I do know that people are complex characters and there will be some that are over anxious, susceptible to wild theories and influences, and are likely scared and vulnerable.


I do ALSO think that 'Covid passports' for general pastimes and activities are the thin end of the wedge, and I hope we don't regret allowing this corrupt, incompetent government so much power in the long term.

So I have found alternative employment and am happy to forego concerts etc and travel within the UK for the foreseeable.

Its really not a hardship.

I live in France and about half of the local people Ì have on my FB are bitching and moaning about the vaccine and the vaccine passport. They're also posting things about rebellion and free-thinking and civil disobedience etc. I think they're fucking idiots and frankly, it's made reconsider a lot of my friendships/acquaintances.
