Well that's it then. We have to cancel our holidaySad. This year feels like I have been cursed. I've had two eye operations to stop me going blind, and now this.

DH & I have been doubly vaccinated but the DC are too young.

Aaaaaarrrrggghhh Angry

Is it the app?

If so just delete it and go.

TheNewBlack · 05/08/2021 06:43

I’m sorry to hear this. Did your ping message tell you to isolate?

PhilCornwall1 · 05/08/2021 06:43

Just deinstall the app, problem solved. It's not as if you have to pay attention to it anyway.

Athinginitself · 05/08/2021 06:47

Do you mean by the app or have you been contacted by track and trace?

EffOrf · 05/08/2021 06:47

Is this the app you don't have to take any notice of that so I would delete and ignore. Of course if it is the proper Test and Trace you must cancel your holiday

whatswithtodaytoday · 05/08/2021 06:48

Do you know where it's from? Have you been anywhere risky, like an indoor event or crowded place?

Username7521 · 05/08/2021 06:52

I’d do a lateral flow and delete the app. Do lateral flows every 2 days if you’re worried.

TheWindOnTheMoon · 05/08/2021 06:55

Cannot think where at all. I haven't been anywhere other than the supermarket to do shopping and a café.

It was the app not track & trace. DH thinks turn app off, turn phone off & just go on holiday. But I'm thinking what if I really have got it & spread it around. I'd never forgive myself. DH & DS are both asthmatic. It's a nightmare.

lat flow and go enjoy .

MummyOf4Kids · 05/08/2021 06:56

Do a lateral flow test and delete the app.
If you're pinged by the app you're not legally required to isolate.

HowdyDudey · 05/08/2021 06:57

I say listen to your husband.
Perhaps pick up some lateral flow tests from a chemist and do those every few days. They’re not 100 but it might give you some peace of mind.

Twizbe · 05/08/2021 06:58

Do a lateral flow and delete the app. Have a lovely holiday

clickychicky · 05/08/2021 06:58

Why does anyone download the app if they are just going to ignore it when it does what it was downloaded for?

Suzi888 · 05/08/2021 07:02

Get a lft and go.
The sensitivity if the app is being adjusted as it’s too sensitive and some of the apps aren’t legitimate anyway. So be careful if you cancel and expect a refund as you may not get one.
From 7th August you only have to isolate if you tested positive or aren’t jabbed, (in Wales) I think!

EffOrf · 05/08/2021 07:03

@clickychicky

I think some had the app to get into places, of course you don't have to do that now and they probably forgot to delete it. I downloaded the app at the start, saw it wasn't fit for purpose and deleted immediately.
TheWindOnTheMoon · 05/08/2021 07:04

Feeling very shaky atm. Anxiety levels are high. I can see both sides of this. Do lateral flows, delete app & go on holiday. Or book test & self isolate. It's the "what if I've got covid or I'm a carrier" that I can't ignore.

I couldn't cancel a holiday for this.

OP the vulnerable are vaccinated. Just go.

PhilCornwall1 · 05/08/2021 07:07

@clickychicky

Does it?

When I looked at the source code for the IOS version of the app, there were areas of code that had the comments "this should work" or "not sure why this doesn't work". They were quickly removed, but a code comparison showed no changes to the code itself. Why would you trust that.
EffOrf · 05/08/2021 07:07

Are you going in a car to a UK holiday, if so nothing to worry about as you can easily come home if you have to.

Medievalist · 05/08/2021 07:07

Please don't cancel. I know so many people who've been pinged and never tested positive - including myself. And so many people who've now deleted the app.

Sounds like you really need and deserve a holiday.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 05/08/2021 07:09

I really don't understand how after all this time the message hasn't got through that checking into places and having the Bluetooth singing aspect of the app are two totally separate things

How was it not fit for purpose for checking in? I've heard lots of complaints about the Bluetooth detection but none about the check in part. I know we don't have to do it now but I thought that worked pretty wel

You don't have to isolate OP, it's up to you and probably depends on the type of holiday you have planned

What about doing the lateral flow test and take it from there? Have you got any at home? If not go to chemist, Boots etc and get a test. 30 mins later get result and take it from there. If you cancel will you get your money back? If your positive you will all have to isolate.

clickychicky · 05/08/2021 07:11

@EffOrf ahh that makes sense thanks. I forget the checking in bit as I've only been out somewhere with a code a handful of times.

OP, it's completely up to you and what you feel comfortable with. I'm sorry if this means your holiday has been ruined.

LouLou198 · 05/08/2021 07:13

If this had happened in just over a weeks time you wouldn't have needed to isolate as you have both been double jabbed. I can't remember who I saw being interviewed on the news yesterday but she was saying a ping from the app is advisory, only contact from test and trace is compulsory. It has already been shown the app is not fit for purpose, people being pinged sat in their own home/in their own car at traffic lights etc. Enjoy your holiday, take a lateral flow test everyday if you are anxious.
