Covid

What does this mean for schools?

Trying to get my head around what the delay to reopening means for the activities that usually go ahead at the end of the summer term.
Will parents be able to attend sports days? End of term productions? Will transition days go ahead?

Looks like no major changes to policy so much will depend one whether event(s) fit within current covid guidance

Guess it's best to email your school headteacher(s) in a week or so and see what how they are interpreting the guidelines.

Why would transition days not go ahead? Do you live somewhere that the schools are closed?

All. Others things are no change to what we can do now

I’ve been to sports days already in step 3 (outside and limited numbers). I think they could have parents at productions (with limited numbers and distancing) since cinemas are open. Not sure about transition days as that is mixing current bubbles.

Our kids drama club is doing performance outside. Not hear about sports days but I imagine outside will be doable.

We are still holding sports days but with no parents. We are aiming to do a leavers’ concert on the playground a class at a time with parents socially distanced. Transition to meet the new teacher will be on the playground or via Zoom and we aren’t mixing classes up this year.

I think transition days should go ahead, maybe in their new forms, so just 30 children per form and outside if possible.

I’m a secondary teacher. We have a transition event scheduled for Yr 6 but will be held virtually as we can not have hundreds of different Yr 6s from a multiple of schools mixing.

No, no and no for us.

No transition day as that would mean bringing a load of kids from about 12 feeder schools onto the site. Plus we would have to manage parents at the gate etc.

Sports day being run as two halves, First part will be years 7,8 and 9.

Second part year 10, 11 and sixth form.

No mixing of bubbles this close to the end

No transition days for ds moving up a school - but they have scheduled the yr 7 to start a day earlier than the rest of the school (as usual) and set up an online transition portal

Transition events have been postponed in my area, we have surge testing in some local areas and they don't feel they can mix children from multiple schools currently. Really hard for current year 6, as there were no opportunities for them to look at secondary schools before applying so lots haven't even seen where they will be going in September.

Everything in Scotland has already been cancelled as it is

Oh - except thousands of fans at football - because that’s the SNP and its priorities for you

I'm in Scotland so a few weeks ahead. Our kids have had transition but it's been on a Friday afternoon when the high school kids are not in. One primary school each week for the past few weeks.

Can a sports day go ahead in a large indoor sports arena?

It's no, no and no here I'm afraid (surge testing). No updated advice

For us -
Sports day will happen, but each year group will do there own with no parents.
School Play will happen, but will only involve Y6 and will have a limited socially distanced audience.
Leavers assembly will be outside with socially distanced audience.
Transition / meet the teacher for year groups rec-Y5 will happen outside.
It is likely Y6 - secondary transition will be cancelled/ delayed.

@Cattitudes

I think transition days should go ahead, maybe in their new forms, so just 30 children per form and outside if possible.

But they'll all be from different schools so they mix bubbles and primaries.

We are having leavers assembly via zoom for my year 6 DS. Not sure if there are any changes to transition day plans, the programme starts next week with several evening and full day events so not sure if it will be allowed, lots of children from lots of primaries.

In Scotland sports days are behind closed doors, majority of graduations are the same or one family at a time outdoors.

School transition stuff very minimal, over teams/outdoors etc

So I wouldn’t get your hopes up

We have 27 feeder schools. Transition days simply can't go ahead.

Transition day has to be a no, primary to secondary.

Within primary schools it would be more achievable as the only people bubble crossing are the staff. My kids primary had planned transition days as normal but we await more guidance.

Report
HelenaJustina · 14/06/2021 19:25

Primary here: no spectators for Sports days, will be run in year group bubbles across 3 days. No productions planned and the Leavers assembly will be filmed and sent to parents. Parents will be able to attend Leavers Mass (we think) within current guidelines.
Secondary will run summer school as a transition as the Y6 bubbles will then be over and they will meet/greet new year 7 bubble.
