NHS Test & Trace have contacted me - need to take DS to school!

Apologies if this has been done to death but I have just been told by NHS test and trace to self isolate for ten days as someone I have been in contact with has tested positive! I have no idea who this is so can only assume it's someone who checked into the same restaurant as me last Thursday. So... how do I get my DS6 to school? Single parent. Nightmare!

I don't know if it's the same situation, but when I was self-isolating for 14 days prior to surgery a few months ago, the NHS told me I could keep doing the school run (obvs avoiding other people) as I'm a single parent.

Drive to school and let them walk in themselves? Shouldn’t be someone in a restaurant surely as you should have been over two metres apart?

Is he your DS6 as in sixth son, or do you mean DS(6) - his age?

In the first case, get an older sibling roped in.

Otherwise, youneed to ask a neighbour, any other parent you have contact details for, any friend and rope someone in. Having someone ask around at school might find someone who passes your way anyhow. It might be worth contacting council/voluntary covid assistance services if you're stuck. They exist to make isolation workable.

If you had broken your leg and were totally physically unable to move for first few weeks of healing, , what would you do about DS and school? Do that!

It won't be someone who checked into the same restaurant, that's not what check-ins are for. It will be someone who has named you as close contact.

Well it's already been 7 days so your unlikely to develop symptoms now. Pretty much my experience of test and trace, by the time they contact you the isolation period is almost over. Working really well isn't it Hmm.

It’s not the same. If you’ve been a close contact you need to stay in without exception.

Is there a class WhatsApp/Facebook group? I’d ask if people can help.

When is your time up? Ten days from today?

This is all madness isn’t it… chances are if you have it you’ve already given it to your dc, so if they’re continuing to go to school what is the point of isolating at all? It’s not like you can isolate from a 6 year old especially if you’re a single parent. (I know that’s not what you’re asking and I know that’s not the rules but just seems ridiculous).

Says ten days from today so until 19 June! My son is 6. I've just called his Dad and he is going to come over and take him in and presumably pick up too. I've only seen one person in weeks and that was my line manager and we went for a meal last Thursday. I have no idea who it could be.

That doesn’t sound right then. Have you been anywhere else?

Did they know your name ? Could it be someone just gave a fake number and it's yours?

Surely your Manager would have called you themselves aswell

In theory that means the contact with the positive person was yesterday. The isolation period includes the day you were last in contact with them plus the next full 10 days.

Contact the school and let them know. This happened to me a while ago and the school/council/local authority (I’m not sure who paid) sent a transport taxi every day to take my youngest (6) to and from school. A family support worker from the school came in the taxi to get him and drop him off too so that he had a familiar face in the car, not just the driver. X

Yeah I've been contacted twice and it was around day 10- what is the point.

Have you been phoned or are you just talking about the app telling you to isolate?

Report
passmethemilk · 10/06/2021 07:59

So was you in contact with someone yesterday or the day before?
My DS had an incorrect date. It's so annoying that they can just text you something and it could be wrong.
I'd still take child to school but stay outside and away from everyone.
Have you been doing the tests? I know they are not 100% but may help if you have covid and no symptoms.

Somethings not adding up here. Ten days would mean your contact was yesterday. Track and trace would ask you about your childcare needs. Are you sure it was genuine? Where were you yesterday?

Report
Isadora2007 · 10/06/2021 08:01

Sounds like an error of some sort as even if it was from the restaurant your isolation would end this weekend. So please chase it up. And stay in.

So PHE can identify outbreaks at venues ans send alerts to people who may have been there at the same time as the positive person, advising them they might have been in contact and to ensure they abide by current social distancing guidelines. It's the contact tracing part of the app (which. Am be turned off) which can detect close contact and tell you to self isolate.

If you go into the app, click on about this app, then how this app works, then what the app does, there's lots of info about how each part of the app works and what can happen as a result of them.

Is it the app or test and trace itself that have contacted you are they are separate things? It won't be from the restaurant as that was too far in the past to make you need to isolate for 10 days.

Contact must have been in the last day or 2 to need to isolate for the full 10 days

I was contacted 1hours after the person who tested positive got their results. Text, followed up by a phone call about 30 minutes later.

OP, if they have told you to isolate for 10 days, that will be from the date you were in contact with the person who tested +ve. the dates will be on the text message they send you, and they tell you over the phone.

The problem with taking your son to school is that you’d have to be in very close contact with him, when really you should be keeping away from him as much as possible.

My friend had this with her son. He was to isolate but she had a younger one to drop off at nursery.

Nursery told her to drop the youngest in the car park and a staff member will be there to meet him. Can you organise this with your sons school?

Fuck it, at this point I'd just do the school run but stay back from other people.

Yeah yeah, I'm a terrible person, third wave, vulnerable people, variants... But vaccines are working, hospital admissions are flat and if we aim for zero cases / transmission we will be doing this shit for the next five years or more.
