Anyone not having vaccine , why aren't you?

Is anyone not having the vaccine and what are your reasons? Im in my 30s I'm not having the vaccine because I'm worried about the long term effects that might not come to light for a few years. Why are you not having it?
If you think the vaccine is amazing and anyone not having it is selfish you probably don't need to comment.

Have or don't have it OP, but why start a thread looking for smoke blowing to validate your choice?

Exactly. You are indeed selfish.

I don’t think people think the vaccine is amazing OP. What is the alternative though? It’s been a shit year and some of us are willing to try because when or if the schools are to close down again due to infection it’s not great when you have no other means of childcare.

There’s risk to everything in life don't over think things.

I am having it, but simply because I feel at this point it is linked to freedom (going on holiday etc..) l, although the govt are seemingly against it, I can see vaccine passports happening and I want my life back.

I'm having Pfizer though. I wouldn't have AZ. I know the risks are very very small but I'd rather minimise as much as possible.

I'm having the vaccine and cannot wait for it! I'm getting it to protect myself and others and to get back to a sense of normal life! It's tiring reading about people not taking it because of the long term effects when getting COVID is a bigger risk to life.

I'm in my 30s too and was so relieved to have my vaccine last week.
I definitely wanted to avoid the long term effects of covid, as I have friends who've had CFS/other long term issues brought on by post-viral complications of other illnesses so I've seen first hand how that can hugely affect your life.

shitstirrer · 20/05/2021 10:26

well the alternative is to take your chances with Covid then. There are no ideal choices in the times that we are living in, it is either vaccine or Covid.

It seems not to be the wise thing at the moment to declare you are NOT having the vaccine, unless to close friends and family.

It also seems like most of mumsnet are in favour of the vaccine but in real life, for me anyway, it’s not the case. Sure grandparents and those over 50s have had it that I know (and some in the 50s age bracket that have regretted it) But out of my close friends and cousins we are not having it.
Various reasons but main ones are for blood clots from any of the 3 main vaccines not just AZ, that it could accelerate the development of cancers or other health issues that are just starting in your body that you do not yet know about, worries about infertility. Myself and some friends have been on the contraceptive pill for 10 years plus and although have so far not had any side effects or issues with blood clotting do we know for certain that contraceptive pill plus a vaccine that DOES indeed cause blood clots in some, is a safe combination?
For all those saying contraceptive pill increases blood clots but i take that. Yes i do as i have been on it for over 10 years and I believe I would have had some blood clot problems by now. I don’t and have never had any side effects at all. It is also a huge benefit for me and preferred over methods like the coil etc. For me it works and is literally a life changer, as I do not want to have any more children.
Is the vaccine such a life changer for me?? Is it worth taking a risk with my life? Leaving my 2 young children without a mother? For what? Covid which for a healthy 30 something year old is going to be no more than a flu at WORST?
What is the gain? Even for holidays those vaccinated are having to jump through as many hoops as those not. You can still spread it to others, you can still get it. So for a 30 year old you will go from flu symptoms to a few days of a cold? OK... We’ve never questioned when we’ve had actual flu or strep throat or tonsillitis which is horrendous for me lasting up to 2 weeks.

I had covid last year pre any vaccines. It was a very bad cold. I have had worse tonsillitis - now that’s bad. I catch everything from my nursery/ school age kids- I’ve had it all, and some awful viruses. I got through them all covid is just ‘another virus’
From recent news it doesn’t send many 30 year olds into zombies neither does it hospitalise them on ventilators . I know how my body handles covid. I have NO idea what will happen after the vaccine. I may even have no side effects just a sore arm and post on here later that it was all fine and everyone else refusing it is selfish and an idiot! I wouldn’t be so sure of myself 6 months down the line, or a year, when there is a sudden uprise in cancers or other disease...
This isn’t just about having 1 vaccine. It isn’t just 1 and you have life long immunity. No, it’s 3 vaccines at least this year... so for most of us that will be 3 vaccines in the space of 6 months... plus a flu jab... that’s 4. And back to more vaccinations early next year to combat the ‘’new variants’’.
That simply cannot be healthy on anyone at all. A healthy under 40s person does NOT ever need that! Invest in some good quality vitamins like Solgar/ Viridian, do a full blood test to see if you are as fully healthy as you believe, wash your hands regularly wear your mask and SD when possible.

Oh and those saying what do we normal people know, we are not doctors. Doctors are only telling us what the government has instructed them to say. A few maybe in hushed voices may privately advise to wait or not get the vaccine at all. But what happens then, they lose their license and get struck off, lose their career. No ones going to risk that. Plus themselves have no idea what is really in those vaccines. Of course they will have natural reservations, doctors are only human after a rushed out emergency use vaccine. But they will adhere to the script the government has given them.

I wont be having it, the push from society to have it amounts to bullying and is quite sinister on many levels with the state interfering with the health of people giving up body autonomy with rthe fallout including a bunch of people online labeling people selfish for taking a vaccine which may cause them issues. It doesn't matter what the perceived risks of the vaccine compared to covid are, it's no ones business bar the person taking the vaccine whether they take it or not.

Imagine an alien spacecraft flying over the earth looking down " what are they locking away/ isolating for commander ?" asks on alien - " well" replies the commander " it's a virus that has an average age of death of 82 yet the human species has a finite life expectancy of between 79-81. The isolation of them locking away is causing delays in medical treatment for cancer which kills 450 a day, financial distress of lost homes and mental health issues soaring through the roof with the policies of lockdown estimated to kill tens of thousands of younger people that would have survived covid. There seems little recognition in this species" continues the alien commander, "of the fact all of the humans hiding away will be dead in a short time anyway from a myriad of conditions including but not limited to heart disease, dementia, parkinsons, cancer , stroke, diabetes, alzheimers.." " Surely they have a cure for this virus by now"? asks the alien. " A vaccine has come out, it may not work as well against new strains of a virus which is so deadly for most people, they need a test to even know they have it. Young people are being told to have the vaccine whose risk of dying from covid is less than crossing a busy road yet they have a higher risk of blood clots / complications from the vaccine than older people have ". " Why on earth are they taking the vaccine then" screams the alien to the commander. " Well Brenda at number 42 for eg thinks it will change government policy of lockdowns with thousands flying in and out of a tiny island daily and believes a young person should take the risk of complications from the vaccine so she can sit in a cinema feeling better- if they don't they are selfish"

The alien turns to the commander and says " Sir, there appears to be no intelligent life here- permission to fly the mothership on". "Granted !" laughs the commander

Most medical professionals now do not speak out despite having reservations. Who wants to lose their nice family home, car, exotic holiday, great salary and their kids private education. It’s easier to keep quiet as everyone else does and keep your fingers crossed. The one or 2 that do speak out get struck off the nhs. They cannot ever work again because they voiced their concerns. Or is some countries they just go ‘missing’ and no one ever sees them again. Or ‘suddenly die of Covid’ . 😔

Agreed, I've had 2 letters and 2 calls " encouraging " me to have it and have no wish to.. it's quite sinister now and goes beyond a push constituting bullying.

There's a four part documentary on BBC4 about vaccines. The first part was on Tuesday night at 10pm. Some of the contributers you'll have seen talking about the situation and the vaccines over the last year. It would be worthwhile you watching it OP. It's about how the smallpox vaccine eradicated the disease and is set in the context of today's Covid 19 crisis.

Smallpox had a mortality rate of 1 in 3, you are comparing apples with oranges drawing parallels to covid. Many people also died taking the smallpox vaccine but bearing in mind the dangers of it, the risks were worth taking- hard to compare that to a virus that kills less than 1 in 1000 under 70s with an average age of death from covid above natural life expectancy
