The first poster made a thread with the title "How long til MN delete this?" with nothing but a link (in AIBU, not even Coronavirus) and then proceeded to spam the board with the same link when their first thread was inevitably deleted - obviously nothing more than a wind up merchant who's clearly not after a constructive discussion.

For whatever reason you've taken it upon yourself to continue their good work...

But so many of us are vaccinated now, especially the elderly. Can't really get worked up about this to be honest. We're going to get variants we can't lockdown forever for every mutation.

I doubt this would be a national lockdown. Possibly some smaller local ones if it gets a proper hold in some communities. There won’t be any appetite for a national lockdown again.

Why? In Scotland we have 68 in hospital and less than 260 showing new positives. Why on earth would we lockdown for that.

But there's no sign of it causing more deaths, in fact there were reported to have been cases in several care homes and no deaths, indicating that the vaccine is reasonably effective. I don't see another lockdown unless there are large numbers of hospitalisations and deaths - cases are not really relevant.
I do think we should rethink allowing travel without quarantine this summer.

In answer to the OP, no I don’t think there’ll be another lockdown, but it’s likely to have an impact on plans to lift all restrictions.

Unlikely unless the vaccines aren't affective against it. Lockdowns are predominantly (but not exclusively) to prevent too many in hospital at once, if people are catching it but not getting hospitalised then I think it'll be hard to sell a lockdown.

Can’t see a lockdown, might impact travel restrictions. We should be cautious with international travel and quarantine considering the mass efforts of the nhs and the population to get vaccinated.

People in their 40s are still being vaccinated so a large proportion of the population is still unprotected.
If this is a strain that spreads much more easily and is increasing at a time when restrictions are being lifted, the concern is that it will spread amongst those without any immunity.
