Covid

This isn’t going to end, is it....?

I was FaceTiming my friend tonight, I told her we’ve booked a uk break for August.
She laughed at me and said to her husband “should I tell her the bad news or do you want to”

Her husband is a respiratory consultant and said that the new variants of Covid will cause another wave and further lockdowns.

I asked how he could possibly know this and he laughed and said “inside information”

I suffer with anxiety and haven’t stopped crying since I got off of our FaceTime chat.

I can’t do this anymore. I realty can’t 😭

Of course it's going to end.

An awful lot of people got away last summer whether to the UK or abroad and last summer was before vaccines and before advances in treatment.

It was very unkind of them but they don't know.

What was the point of her saying that to you? Even if it were true (I have no idea, I have a D in a science GCSE from over 20 years ago so not in any position to offer expert advice re diseases!) it was unkind of her to say that. Covid really has brought out a desperately unkind side of people and I am sorry your friend pissed on your chips. For what it's worth, I think that you will be able to go - I managed a caravan break last year and we didn't have any vaccinations then. I hope that you feel a bit better now Flowers

inside information Grin

pull the other one.

I also have inside information because of the NHS resource planning bit of my job role.

The truth is, noone knows.

We're planning for the worst and hoping for the best, just like everyone else.

Anyone - anyone! - who says they know what this virus is going to do or where disease levels will be in August is pulling their knowledge out of their arse, frankly.

My opinion? I wouldn't book a non-refundable flight, but I think a UK holiday is likely to happen just fine by then. The vaccine rollout will be all but done, and the evidence suggests they're pretty effective against the known variants. I think we're going to be in a good place. Not perfect, but good. But that's just my opinion - we're going to have to wait and see.

Ooh, secret inside info, from the virus itself?

Think about it, how could anyone have inside info about a virus, it doesnt have pesky plans it divulges to its friends

I don’t know why she said it. Her husband had such a smirk on his face too. Like he knew how much it was going to get to me. 😔

Respiratory consultant and fortune-telling mystic? That’s quite a skill set. Or it’s total bollocks, one or the other.

Report
StiggyZardust · 05/03/2021 19:59

It won't disappear but we'll manage it better with vaccinations.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 05/03/2021 20:00

So far early research shows the vaccines work on all the variants re hospitalisations and deaths

Just today a leak from the oxford research is saying AZ is all good with the Brazilian variant in tests

By the way my dog groomer says this summer cats are going to try and take over the world. You have been warned 😶

Usually it’s someone in the cabinet that’s the high level secret source. This is a change.
