Now they have brought the Brazil variant with them.

We need to shut all borders to tourists for this year. Only absolute essential travel allowed with hotel quarantine after at travellers cost.

Also they need to have a very-strong sentences to deter others.

Or am I too harsh ?

Depends why they flew. Essential workers, etc, fine.

Twats on holiday, not so much.

3 in Gloucestershire as well I think I read.

Tbh at this point nothing is going to help. It's too late. Too many people don't give a shit. We'd best just learn to live with it and hope for the best.

Ch4 news just said it was before hotel quarantine began. Now we have hotel quarantine.

I doubt they were tourists - the Scots flew into Aberdeen which makes me think maybe oil and gas industry??

Sounds a convoluted way to get home

It's not just "the Brazil variant", it's a second Brazil variant, potentially more effective at evading vaccines.

Tbh I think as well as fines people should get points on driving licence/ community service ( after quarantine) the fines are not enough.

People can be selfish twats. We know a family who went on holiday to South Africa for Christmas 🙄
And people will successfully avoid the quarantine by taking detours through other countries.

Points on driving license?? How is it related to their driving?! I don’t agree with that, but I do agree that proper criminal convictions should apply for people who have wilfully put others at risk via non essential travel or evading documentation and / or quarantine

You cant do points on driving licences as not every one drives. It would be different penalties for different people.

Surely somehow we are going to have negative tests before flying and on arrival . Not sure how it will work and we can not 100 % eliminate this but something has to happen .

Problem is even if you have a negative test doesn't mean you don't have the virus

Because we are not strict enough enforcing our rules @MrsTerryPratchett

It's all theatre. We should be doing these things and doing them properly, but those in charge don't take it seriously until the next horse has bolted. Then they blame us for breaking rules which either didn't exist or were unclear, or were never enforced so no one followed them. And here we are. 1 year later. Asking how this could have happened. Again.

It's so frustrating.

I get that but also you can't ban all travel. My family live abroad. If I can't see them as I'd have to fork out 2k for hotel quarantine for ANOTHER year, I don't know how I'd cope. It's not just tourists- People have lives outside the UK.

If this carries on much longer, I'm going to give up my life here, my job and my UK based qualifications to move abroad with my family- I can't do this much longer.

No shit, t'was completely expected...there were so many passengers notifying various radio/tv programmes last month, saying they sailed through the UK airports and beyond with no checks whatsoever..

I have to say this was the bit that got my attention.

That's just ridiculous and I hope if that person is ever tracked (should be easy as it's the persons on the flight who doesn't have the card completed!) there are serious consequences.

It was the test registration card that wasn't complete nothing to do with the flight

Perhaps there should also be consequences for our government who’ve allowed this to happen.

And whomever should have checked it and didn't. FFS the UK is a island, "This fortress built by Nature for herself Against infection and the hand of war". Least would be to check the sodding paperwork.

@ineedaholidaynow as someone who lives in the north of Scotland that is the normal way to get home. If you live in Aberdeen you need to fly to a larger airport, usually London, to get connecting flights elsewhere in the world. I suspect there is not much demand for direct flights to Brazil from London, so they will then have flown to Paris.
