51 Council areas in England showing rising cases in the most recent 7 days (using a 4 day reporting lag).

The two graphs shows the last 7 day rate per 100,000 on the x-axis and then one graph shows the percentage week on week increase; and then the other the increase in terms of the absolute number of cases. Both to be viewed in the context of the median rate in England being around (in reality just below) the 95 cases per 100,000 mark.

Rother in East Sussex has a 50% week on week increase as one graph shows, and the second that this in an increase of 14 cases. Rother's rate still below 50 per 100,000.

Sheffield has an increase of just over 11%; relating to 79 cases - current rate around 132 per 100,000.

Clearly Rother and Sheffield have very different populations. However as rates start to get lower the risk is that percentage increases can become increasingly misleading, hence a fuller context is needed.

The third attachments lists all 51 councils with rates, percentage increase and case increase

Given cases are still important (imo) putting them together with other key metrics just for England, and using an indexed reduction from the point of the peak seven day average in each instance. So deaths peaked 22nd Jan; hospitalisations 12th Jan etc. Given a longer reporting lag for date of death the line end a little earlier.

Very positive direction for all of them.

I’ve not been able to find this thread for weeks and it doesn’t keep me on when I ask to watch it. So sorry if this has been asked repeatedly!
Does the data look like it’s dropping quicker compared to previous lockdowns - which would be a result of vaccination? I can’t figure it out but I’m not great at comparing stats hence why I’m glad this popped up in active!

Thank You Boys. Really good to see the continued improvement in the numbers, and hopefully 20 millions vaccinated by the end of tomorrow.

Report
MRex · 27/02/2021 20:46

@PurpleWh1teGreen - if you want to feel even more positive, the extras have actually already been vaccinated today, you just get the figures tomorrow to say over 20 m (hopefully). (Vaccination figures run a day behind.)

Yay! I’ve gone back to work at as mass vac centre & today has certainly been full on - in a good way. We have been doing people born in the mid 50s along with some group 6 and H & SC workers.

I’m really enjoying being a part of this.

Does the data look like it’s dropping quicker compared to previous lockdowns - which would be a result of vaccination?

It wouldn't even necessarily be due to vaccination, it could just be due to the much higher level of immunity in the population from having had it, so we can't know. It's not falling that much differently though, but the "kent" variant is likely more infectious so more restrictions would normally be required for it to drop the same speed.

It's likely that vaccination and past infection are having an effect on reduction, the thing about lockdowns is though, that huge parts of the population are completely removed from having any chance of catching it, so it could just be that the groups who could still catch it (e.g. factory and supermarket workers who've likely already had it, and care home/medical care needed people who are likely vaccinated) are well protected, when the general population of "work from home" are not protected, so the rebound in cases upon opening could be as fast as before. Or there's more protection, we don't know for sure yet.

I helped out at our local vaccination centre too yesterday @purple. It was really fun seeing everyone so positive about getting their vaccine. We were working through group 6 mainly, included quite a number of people with learning difficulties who came with their carers or family member - Some of them were really nervous, but they all went in Smile. And a fair few older people too who'd missed out thus far for to being in hospital, illness, etc.

Another long time lurker and occasional poster..
I have a question for you data experts. On the government website the hospital admissions and inpatients nationally and for regions is updated daily- but the info for individual hospitals- at least the ones I’ve looked at- it does not. Does that mean we can trust the admissions data? Why would nhs regions know how many people have been admitted overall but not the individual hospitals?

If my local hospital has not posted data since the 14th feb, is admissions since then missed off the stats? Data would obviously be very misleading if so.
Thanks

@Frazzled. I've wondered that and am not sure of the answer, though wonder whether it might be to do with trying not to double count people who are admitted to one hospital and then transferred to another?

Or it could be that the numbers "admitted" yesterday are actually the numbers of recent admissions reported yesterday, who were in fact admitted at different times over the last week or so?

Report
ceeveebee · 27/02/2021 23:35

The “about this data” section tells you how the hospital reporting works - reported daily by region and nation, but only updated weekly by trust.

“ England

Data include all hospitals and are reported daily by trusts to NHS England and NHS Improvement......
......Daily data at NHS Trust level is reported weekly on Thursdays, in line with NHS England reporting”

Report
ceeveebee · 27/02/2021 23:40

And the data is also published here on the nhs website daily by region, weekly by trust
