So much for ‘protect the NHS’

This is a ranty post & I apologise.

I’m really starting to get pissed off with the vaccine situation.

My area are now onto vaccinating the over 40’s!!!

I’ve got family & friends that have been called for theirs... fit, healthy, no underlying health conditions.

I’m early 30’s two health conditions and I’m in group 6 for the vaccine.

I can’t book online and when I’ve spoken to my GP (today) they’ve just said I will have to wait for them to contact me.

My sister in law has been given hers on the basis that she’s a carer.
She “cares” for her husband who has a bad back.
A back so bad that over the summer he’s completely transformed his back garden, alone!

It just really doesn’t seem fair at all.

I have a small child and I’m a single parent, surely I should be vaccinated as a carer?!

I know we are all entitled to the vaccine, but hasn’t the point all along beeb to protect the NHS?!

How are we protecting them by jumping ahead to the fit and healthy and leaving the vulnerable ones behind?!

The JCVI says the following groups should be prioritised, once all at-risk groups in phase one have been offered at least one dose of the vaccine (by mid-April):

all those aged 40-49 years
all those aged 30-39 years
all those aged 18-29 years

So my area are clearly not following this...!

Because a lot of the people in group 6 need to be vaccinated according to actual need which can only be dealt with via the gp system. The mass hubs that you can book via the nhs website are bound to be going that little bit faster. No good getting jealous and bitter of the people around you. That's just not healthy

Have you tried calling 119,op? I absolutely get your frustration

It’s not jealousy or bitterness.

I agree we’re ALL entitled, but the family & friends I know who have now been vaccinated are very unlikely to become severely ill in comparison to myself (and that’s based on the data available)

Group 6 is a disaster and I suspect the reason they have opted to do the rest strictly by age.

Group 6 is quite big and is expected to be finished by end of March/early April.

You time will come - as will mine.

Yes, I’ve called them. They just use the online booking system the I could use myself, so it won’t allow them to book one for me.

Do you think areas should stop vaccinating so that other areas can catch up? The reason we're proceeding so quickly with vaccinating is because we're trying not to do this. Different areas have different proportions of elderly/young/vulnerable etc.

@Sweetnhappy

No, I don’t think this. But I do think if we’re so far ahead we should be looking at things from a priority perspective.. the most vulnerable first.

Why can’t you book via the national booking system? It’s open for group 6 now. Are you registered as being clinically vulnerable? Have you ever had a shielding letter? It sounds to me like the CV hasn’t been ticked for you on the system.

@ThatWouldBeEnough

I’m not CEV - group 4 (shielding)

I’m CV - group 6.

Group 6 cannot book online.

Actually it’s the other way around. GPs are the one that are skipping forward in the groups, mass vaccination centres have been strictly told they are not allowed to.

As it’s open for group 7 I’d assumed that meant up to group 7.

Don’t be so rude! Some people on this site literally have zero empathy!

@littlelionboss
I understand why you feel a bit frustrated. I am also in group 6 (carer for my disabled son) and was offered the vaccine last week through the GP hub. Does your local GP give vaccines on site or are they connected to a hub?
Maybe call again and let them know you are feeling anxious. I am sure it will be your turn very soon! 😊

Yes absolutely. It just shows how much harder it is to throw in any other criteria.

No. They've ground to a halt at group 6

That's why group 7 can now book online.

I called them today, the GP said she can’t give me a timescale because she doesn’t know when they will get the doses delivered. Sad

I'll admit it annoys me since I'm over 50 and in school teaching critical worker children every single day, with no vaccine in sight in my area.

I'm in group 6 and have just booked online as my GP has no idea when they'll get to me.
Maybe it depends on how busy your local vaccination centre is?
