Start using Mumsnet PremiumBoris to make imminent announcement on schools, any guesses?!
(453 Posts)Do we think an extension delaying opening or is he going to try and get children back in sooner...
I have to say I think the latter would be a fucking disaster but I wouldn’t be at all surprised...
Only that sixth form colleges will be ignored as if they do not exist.
Hopefully that they will be going back soon!
Hoping it is that primaries can go back after half term as had been rumoured! I don't have children in primary but care for little ones so I hope that baby classes can resume
Daily Mail is reporting that years 1, 6, 11 and 13 could be returning after half term.
Probably sending them back after half term, which is too soon and will risk lives. More bad decisions.
If they are allowing some pupils back, I hope that it's a form of blended learning so that everybody gets a turn.
Hard to square a return to on-site schooling with the messages they were giving yesterday.
Also, returning without doing any of the measures that have been proposed to make schools safer seems the worst possible course of action
When is the announcement?
Get young kids back to school. There is plenty of evidence that they do not amplify the infection.
Approx 1:30pm in the House of Commons and then 5pm as usual.
I just hope there's some flexibility for clinically vulnerable children, families and teachers who haven't yet been vaccinated in whatever they announce.
@AuntieStella totally agree, nothing has changed for teachers safety since home learning so I can’t see the NEU rolling over on a quick turnaround
What about all the new strains that cause “possibly” more severe symptoms or “might” spread faster!!

If this is the case it would seem odd not to include reception, as it would otherwise be the same as the June year groups, and reception is very hard to replicate at home
I think it will be about linking the reopening to the scientific evidence e.g. reopen x if hospital admissions/vaccination numbers reach x. It is too early for any firm dates but he is being pushed to at least have a plan for reopening.
Praying common senses prevails and schools return
Praying common senses prevails and schools stay closed to most
Keir Starmer has said vaccinate teachers over half term and reopen schools
Thank god - someone with a brain at last
@soundofsilence1 I agree, I think it will be outlining a plan rather than specifying dates at this stage
Opening them after half term.
All teachers and support staff to be vaccinated over the half term holiday. I hope.
Why not Y5 of whom some will be doing 11+. Although schools don’t prepare for the exam, it’s important that this year group has good basics taught at school.
The Times included Reception in their article (at least it suggested it in the bit not behind their paywall).

Opening them after half term.
All teachers and support staff to be vaccinated over the half term holiday. I hope.
Hopefully
Please let them put lives first and keep schools closed to all but a few with blended learning optimised for all.
Does anyone have a source or link for this announcement claim pls?
