Covid

My family have all had the vaccine and are now hanging out

My parents both have had the vaccine and my two sisters and their husbands as they are all nhs workers.

I prob won't get it for a long time as I am not in any of the groups.

Now they are all hanging out, talking about how they are going to celebrate my nephews birthday etc and I feel really left out.

Is this how it's going to be from now on?

Is this not the point of the vaccine so that we can attempt some form of normality

You are still supposed to adhere to the rules even after the vaccine, I think?

Report
Nopreservatives · 26/01/2021 21:25

I think yours is an extreme example, but yes I think there will be lots of people who now consider it safe for them to return to normal. God help us if it's true they can still pass it on.

That is hugely irresponsible of them all. Makes me so angry! I hope you’ve told them what selfish idiots they are. There’s no evidence they can’t still transmit it.

Not until we know it suppresses transmission.

Nobody should be behaving differently after they’ve been vaccinated. This is totally against the advice given now.

Did they not read the information they were given about continuing to stick to the rules? Are they a bit dim?

Report
garlictwist · 26/01/2021 21:26

@dollymoo yeah I guess it is the point of the vaccine. And maybe I should just be happy. But I can't see an immediate end in sight for me and it feels kind of "us and them". I already feel quite lonely in lockdown and this is making it worse.

They still have to comply with the rules so they are just plain breaking the rules. Also I assume they’ve all only had one dose?

Lostinwinter · 26/01/2021 21:29

The vaccines are not shown to reduce transmission of the virus. It is still unclear, therefore very selfish of them.

My parents have had one jab but I think one of my sisters may have had both.

My parents were very worried about covid before this being in their seventies. But my sisters and bils were always very blasé. They all had covid quite mildly and think anyone young who gets it badly must have underlying health conditions. I don't agree!

Mine are still unvaccinated/vaccine refusers. They're all hanging out and I'm the boring bitch who's sticking to the rules. It used to really annoy me, but I've recently run out of fucks to give.

As you say they are NHS workers, they really should know better from their professional life.

It's also made very clear when you go for the appointment (my DMum has been done) that you must not make any changes at all. So even non-NHS people are left in no doubt whatsoever.

i doubt they are dim, just anti-social

I don't think that you are being unreasonable, and I agree with PP that they are breaking the rules/guidance which is selfish. However, what else do you expect them to do? If it was not against the rules for them to meet up, would you honestly expect them to just not see eachother because you can't be there?

Although as I said, yanbu, it's understandable why you feel left out.

Covid Vaccine Envy Bingo.

Report
garlictwist · 26/01/2021 21:37

@lljkk maybe you're right. Maybe I am envious and I don't feel like a good person for feeling that way. I am just finding things hard and all this has made me feel even more lonely and upset.

Ah I am sorry, I can understand why that would hurt. I would feel really excluded if I were in your position. I am sure that they don't mean to make you feel left out but it does seem thoughtless of them. Sorry, loneliness is awful.

This is completely against the advice.

I'd report the NHS workers to their hospital trust.

Ahh I feel for you, they are being very thoughtless (maybe demob happy 😊) If they were just meeting up with other people that had had the vaccine it wouldn’t be a potential risk but your nephew could still get it from them and pass it along.

I mean it depends what else they are doing though doesn’t it.

My husband and I work from home. Only place we go is the supermarket from time to time (usually click and collect so no contact there) and the occasional walk on the beach with the kids. Many of our friends are in the same position.

Now it’s moot because none of us have been vaccinated, but if we had and we were all meeting up (safe in the knowledge that we weren’t going to become ill) then given the lack of contact with other people, schools closed etc, I’m not really seeing the big deal 🤷🏻‍♀️

Different if you’re working out of the home or on public transport etc obviously.

Oh how wonderful for them! I can see why you are upset but if they are all vaccinated they won't catch it from each other. I know the rules say not to mix, but tbh I can see why they would ignore once vaccinated. Ahhh! I'm jealous too!

Problem is this is how everyone will behave. Which may be why it does make more sense to space the doses out so everyone still has to be careful for themselves. As noone seems to care about anyone else.

It's also going to be a problem at schools where youll have
Vaxxed parents
Young parents
Anti vax
Deniers.
Too young to be vaxxed.

There basically would be noone left adhering to any rules.

My in laws have been vaxxed and are still abiding by the rules, I don’t agree that no one will.

And yes jealous in a twisted way

I can totally see why you feel excluded and I’m sorry it must be a horrible feeling. They are being very irresponsible though, the vaccine does not stop transmission. Not after one dose anyway I tested positive 28 days after my first vaccine dose. We have had it drummed into us that all measures remain as normal even though we have had the vaccine.

It isn’t how it should be but I fear that it will be.

Report
TheKeatingFive · 26/01/2021 22:02

How long did you want them to wait for? Til you’re vaxxed? Everyone? That could be months and months.

If you’re not in the groups it’s because you’re low risk and if I’m perfectly honest, if I were you I’d be tempted to join them.
