If the new variant is more deadly

I really dont think they'll open before summer

The government need to get a plan if action now

I dont think shops etc will open up either, we need much more people vaccinated twice to see if the vaccines help us

Shit.

I agree.Think remote learning will be for most of the year.

A plan for kids to be able to learn without being in school. A plan so less advantaged kids dont fall behind even more.

I feel more optimistic and think they'll be back after Easter

Oh come on so many caveats in this

I am hopeful that we will be back after the Easter break. Nicer weather, easier to keep doors and windows open etc

Hopefully any rebound in cases will be diminished by then

People cannot work and home school their children at the same time. Long term remote schooling isn't feasible. I don't think it will happen.

Be careful you’ll be accused of being a complete panicking nut job Grin

These spreads speculating when schools open is just so tedious. What is the actual point. I don't know, you don't know, the scientists don't know, Boris doesn't know. Frankly they can't know.

I think we will be rushed back into schools too soon and then have to close them for a third time. But I don’t think they’ll rush back after half term, that would be insane. (Right Gavin, you listening?!)

Exactly so much speculation.

I also read the new south African variant might not respond to the vaccine.

There’ll be two weeks notice so at least that’s something good.

Itisasecret · 22/01/2021 17:56

I think they will. 3 weeks of term 3, 1 week half term, 6 weeks of term 4. 2 weeks Easter. Give or take per area. That is 12 week left. I think we should be in a good place then, especially as schools basically seed infection in the community. I am hopeful they will be back.

The government will want to be extra cautious this time.Like boris said no point to open up then see a sudden surge and have to lockdown again.Think we will need to see everyone vaccinated first before we can ease restrictions especially with the new variant being more deadly.

And if it doesn't then they tweak it.

What is sort of clear is schools are a priority this time. But we shall see.

Will you give it a rest. You've got no idea. Bloody doom mongers on her, honestly. Yes it's serious at the moment but why oh why are so many people intent on whipping up a frenzy of despair and panic at every opportunity.

Yes, the first thing to reopen must be schools.

And I'm not one of those keep everyone in lockdown people I'm thoroughly depressed with it all I'm just trying to be realistic.

Well, schools might be back after Easter, it's too far away for us to know right now. But lots more people will have been vaccinated, the weather will be better, the virus rates should have fallen a bit more...

However, what we DON'T want is schools to go back BEFORE Easter. If we do, there will be yet another spike in infections, it will undo all the good being done right now and yes, children will be losing out during their summer term yet again. Let's do this lockdown thoroughly and properly and then maybe the news will be all positive.....

I can still see it being Primary schools post 1/2 term- Easter at the absolute latest.
It’s just not feasible for so many reasons to continue this beyond that and I think the government know it.
