What tougher measures will we face?

None I don't think. Glastonbury has just announced that it's CXLD for 2021 though so it's another indicator that we're in this for a while yet.

MoirasRoses Thu 21-Jan-21 12:49:07

But cases are falling? Why is continually being reported that they are not? Deaths aren’t yet but they lag, still catching up on Christmas. But cases are dropping .. I cannot see why anyone thinks it isn’t working? How quickly do we expect to see it drop?! It’s been 3 weeks..

Workyticket Thu 21-Jan-21 12:49:19

I've muddled 2 articles together (a shitty rag is saying tougher measures) so hopefully this is just a regular update?

Regular update me thinks.

Glad to head they will also aim to give a two-week notice on schools opening/remaining shut. That would be helpful.

cardswapping Thu 21-Jan-21 12:53:18

Glad to hear

I'd be weeping into my gin if I were her after Piers Morgan tore her apart yesterday morning

It's a bit like a bad parody of Crackerjack

'It's Thursday! It's 5 o'clock! It's CovAttack!'

And all members of the public whose questions are asked will win a pencil

I don’t think Glastonbury being cancelled is necessarily another indicator that we are in this for a while yet though.
The organisers were unable to obtain insurance which would allow them to refund tickets and recoup other costs if cancellation became necessary so they were not able to go ahead.
This is likely to happen in all sorts of areas. The insurance industry will not open its eyes up to further massive losses.

'I'd be weeping into my gin if I were her after Piers Morgan tore her apart yesterday morning'

He doesn't tear anyone apart. He just makes a tit of himself on a daily basis by being the most amateurish 'interviewer' on telly. Morgan seems to think he's like Paxman or Andrew Neil when in fact his hysteria shouty style of questioning is more like something off Jezza Kyle. Susanna Reid sitting there like a nodding dog, what a pair of egotistical prats.

Do we know who the backing singers are yet?

I might be suffering from Lockdown brain but what happened to Allegra Stratton, press officer/spokeswoman?

Maybe I missed something hmm

Exactly. And if it’s “not working” may as well give up then, what’s the point?

m0therofdragons Thu 21-Jan-21 13:29:33

Cases are down in my area but icu capacity is at breaking point.

But that’s from cases some weeks ago most likely. It doesn’t mean the lockdown isn’t working now.

😖

PurpleDaisies Thu 21-Jan-21 13:32:57

It’s a press conference.

Calling it an “announcement” is misleading. We get these all the time.

C8H10N4O2 Thu 21-Jan-21 13:37:03

As far as I can see she is publishing under her husband's name in The Times hmm

PortChee Thu 21-Jan-21 13:37:18

I thought we were to have daily updates anyway at 5? Why do people keep saying it's an 'announcement' every day? We were expecting daily updates weren't we, it's not a surprise? I suspect it'll be more of the same, vaccine numbers, data and lots of 'stay at home' and so on ...

On another note though I wish people would stop going on about lockdown not working. It is... Cases are dropping. The fact deaths have increased is not yet relevant. It's literally e
exactly what Witty told us to expect just a few days ago due to the delay between people getting ill, being hospitalised and unfortunately dying. The likelihood is those deaths were largely made up by people who contracted Covid weeks ago.

It's absolutely tragic obviously but it doesn't mean lockdown is not working. It is. Cases are dropping and hopefully deaths will start to follow after that has filtered through.

PortChee Thu 21-Jan-21 13:39:01

I feel like some people expected to wake up the day after lockdown to a few new cases and no deaths.

MonkeyMooning Thu 21-Jan-21 13:39:26

Delayed again due to lockdown.

AgnesNaismith Thu 21-Jan-21 13:41:20

Cases are consistent where I am....I have no idea why.

Isn’t Priti normally the one to threaten police action? Maybe the army is coming in to nail our doors shut?

PortChee Thu 21-Jan-21 13:42:51

Maybe the army is coming in to nail our doors shut?

I'm sure lots on here would be positively jumping with glee at the prospect to be honest!

YogaLite Thu 21-Jan-21 13:44:21

Alleeeeeegra!!! Where are you???
