Is this the beginning of the end?

I almost feel some excitement today at the thought of life going back to normal.

I just daren’t get too excited but could this really be the beginning of the end?
Is normal life within reaching distance?

How is everyone else feeling?

no i dont think so

the xmas mixing will make it worse....jan/feb will likely be further lockdown as cases inevitably rise and deaths increase

dont you think the xmas mixing will result in anything other than a food coma?

With rapid testing and multiple viable vaccines, it seems to be heading that way.
I dont think it will be very very soon by I think by March we will be on the way there. And about time too, 12 months of this is more than enough!

Although I'm sure someone will be along soon to piss on your parade and tell us that mask wearing and social distancing will be here to stay for the next 25 years.

I think that by next July things might be brighter... no real change before April I'm sorry to say.

I'm feeling very (cautiously) hopeful this evening. It feels like normality is within reach.

Well, we’re maybe 9 months in. There’s another 4-5 to go, assuming all goes well. Then there’s the economic hangover. Depends how you define “the end” and “touching distance” I suppose. We’ve come a long long way from fighting over hand sanitiser in supermarkets and not even having tests. There’s lots of things that will bring improvements. But I think there’s a way to go yet before Spring. I’m cautiously optimistic for a happy Summer.

Well I think as any cases may start to rise in jan/feb it will be mitigated by vaccinations. I’m banking on there being a robust roll out.

I just want to mix with family and friends.

I’m a first time mum this year and I want our baby to be able to meet family he’s not yet met.

"I'm sorry to say"? You're just picking numbers from the air like the rest of us.

I don’t think they would be relaxing Xmas so much if the government didn’t think that the “end” is closer than we may think. They will probably have all vulnerable people and elderly vaccinated just before we see another peak jan/feb time. Well that’s what I’m hoping and believing.

I do feel optimistic. Really looking forward to the fast tests! I really hope they will test people, specially children, with them, instead of sending whole years home for 14 days. The 14 days are tough!
Looking so good with the vaccines, but that I think will take us into next year.
I am also worried, as PP, about a large peak after Christmas. It feels like the last bump in the road towards the light at the end of the tunnel. But a big bump.

whats your normal?

because it will be a long time before holidays abroad are back to what they were, even then the prices will have to go up. same with pubs/restaurants......they are going to have to raise prices considerably

families won't be able to afford to do anything once its all reopened

same for gyms and all the places that were closed. primark won't be cheap anymore. employers are finding its cheaper for people to work from home too,so thats a new normal for many...no contact with colleagues etc

thats my thoughts anyway.

@Dandylioness1 you mention you have a young baby, if they're under 1 you will be able to form a support bubble from 2nd December

Tough time for a first baby. I’m sure being able to see family and friends will return more quickly than some other aspects of “normal” like international travel or Glastonbury. The consensus seems to be becoming “Spring”. I personally wouldn’t call it touching distance just because to me that means next week, but it definitely feels much much closer than it did! Fingers crossed.

These threads never go well OP!

It must be a dark day for the misery loving doom mongers, and unfortunately threads like this just gives them an opportunity to try and bring everyone down.

Imo things are most definitely looking up! It feels like the end is really in reaching distance now. Its not going to be fixed tomorrow but soon this will all be a distant memory. I cant wait!

I’m praying I can keep WFH 😂 I think we will for a while now.

I’m feeling upbeat. The testing is really positive. Fast & multiple tests allowing children to not have to isolate for 14 days every time hopefully and allow relatives to see family members in care homes.. these are really fantastic steps. Not normal yet but it’s a huge improvement. The vaccines will take some time. But I hope by summer & certainly the next school year, we’ll be hitting reasonable normality! 🙏🏼

Ah yes, definitely not expecting festivals and holidays just quite yet.

Realistically I know it won’t be next week but it feels close and I feel like we can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel.
