To be weary of the vaccines?

I'm curious to peoples responses as my social media seems to be full of posts from people mocking those who will get the vaccine.

I'm by no means an anti Vaxer. Myself and my children have had all vaccinations and have the flu jab yearly. My only worry is that not enough is known about the long term side effects.

DS is age 17 - old enough and intelligent enough to decide for himself if he wants the vaccine. At the moment he is saying he will get it if offered.

And to answer the question I assume you meant to ask; no, I'm not worried and we be getting it when it's available. Vaccines rarely have side effects, it's just not how they work and if it has proven to be effective in the trials they have been able to do then I've no problem with it.

Absolutely I will get it. The vaccines have (and will) go through completely appropriate safety testing. Yes that has been short circuited due to necessity. Much of the extended time for other vaccines is the necessity to apply for funding, participants, staffing etc. The speed with which these vaccines are coming through are a testament to what can be achieved through (almost) unlimited will and funding to achieve an aim.

I am just not sure about it. I don't think the developers of the vaccine or the government will tell us enough about it to reassure me. It feels rushed. I know people will come on and say it's been rushed through quicker than other vaccines purely because of the amount of money thrown at it and that doesn't compromise it's safety. I don't know.

I feel it's a moot point anyway. My GP did a social media post about it, a very sensible and level post, about the logistics of administering it, and if I were to be offered it (given I'm in a younger age bracket, no underlying health conditions, no real need to be one of the first in the queue for it), I doubt it's going to be this side of 2022.

Those who refuse it quite clearly don't understand any of the safety protocols which have to be adhered to. This has only been 'rushed' because of what ChickenTikka has said.

No, I didn't know that OP meant wary - because I'm getting pretty bloody weary of having a vaccine solving all our problems being dangled in front of our nose, especially given what a shit show the administering of said vaccine is likely to be, based on the Government's current covid record!

I'm likely to grab it with both hands and run. We've never in our lives had a reaction to a vaccine. This vaccine is still being robustly tested. And I am singularly weary of how life is being thwarted and contorted by the pandemic. . .

I will get it. I’ve done a lot of research into why it has been pushed through so quickly compared to other vaccines (lots of resources available) and I’m satisfied.

The Oxford Vaccine has been trialled with children since the beginning and the Pfizer vaccine has beeb tested on over 12s since last month. I believe (As does ds's paediatrician) that the vaccine will be available to children a little further down the road.

I am disabled and I have chronic health conditions. I would definitely have the vaccine if it is offered to me.
