Question about isolation/asymptomatic covid

I am currently self isolating but have had no symptoms.

My parents are in my bubble for childcare. They are both in their 50s and healthy, though my dad has slightly high blood pressure and is a bit overweight, so I worry about him.

If I had covid, but was asymptomatic, after the 14 days are up, does that mean the risk of me transmitting it is gone? Or would there still be a risk?

Ok so theoretically, if you developed COVID on day 13 or 14 of isolation and if it was asymptomatic then there would be a very, very small chance you could infect someone in the couple of days immediately after isolation. But that's a really, really unlikely string of events and a vanishingly tiny risk. Chances are if you feel fine in day 15 you are fine.

ReallySpicyCurry - so glad you asked this! My OH tested positive on 25 October after losing his sense of taste. He had a high temp on and off for 10 days. We don't live together but he had spent the night at mine 2 days before he lost his taste so even though I didn't have to I did self isolate. However I have had no symptoms at all and even though its now over 3 weeks I worry terribly about being asymptomatic and maybe he caught it from me and what if I'm still infecting people? I don't have close contact with anyone other than him, even at work, so the chance is small but its a really worry.

@Blobby10 - why didn't you have to isolate if you were with him 2 days before he lost his sense of taste? When I tested positive, test and trace asked for details of everyone I had been in contact with 48 hours before symptoms starting.

@HarrietOh I didn't have to technically isolate because I hadn't seen him for 50 hours before his test which was 12 hours after the symptoms started and the cut off time was 48 hours before his test. I decided to err on the side of caution as it was obvious different testing places are giving out different information - he wasn't asked for my information.

@Blobby10 48 hours before Test isn't right. I had to say to Test and Trace who I had been in contact with 48 hours before my symptoms started. Which makes much more sense than 48 hours before you then manage to go and get a test. My isolation was also 10 days from when my symptoms started, not the day I went for my test.

From NHS website:

get a test as soon as possible
anyone you live with must self-isolate until you’ve been tested and received your result
anyone in your support bubble should self-isolate if you've been in close contact with them since your symptoms started or during the 48 hours before they started

@HarrietOh we don't live together. I followed the rules correctly and self isolated from the minute I knew he had symptoms as (in my opinion) OH was advised incorrectly by T & T. There were only 12 hours between the start of symptoms (loss of taste) and getting a test as the nearest test centre was so quiet.

@Blobby10 yes so assuming OH is in your bubble and same contact 48 hours before symptoms start should isolate. I was in same position but I hadn’t seen my OH in over 48 hours before my symptoms started so he didn’t need to isolate, but within 48 hours of symptoms started he would have done. It’s def not 48 hours before the test Smile

If you live with others its possible that you have given it to them so 1-14d for you to get it asymptomatically then it goes through the rest of the family.
If your children at at school etc too then obviously that will be a risk to your parents at the moment
