Covid

Feeling ill on day 13 of isolating

DS has been isolating due to being in close contact with a positive case at school. Up to now he has been fine, but last night he started complaining of not feeling well.

This morning he feels warm but no fever, got a really sore throat and stomach ache. I know covid presents differently in children but as hes not displaying the classic symptoms I can't get a test? Also how likely is it for symptoms to start this late in the isolation period?

Any advice would be great, thanks.

If he feels warm Id go and get a test personally. Its not unheard of for symptoms to start as late (which is why it is 14 days).

Just book one online, they won’t check you have the symptoms. He’s unwell and not been anywhere to pick anything else up. I can’t see how you’d do anything else!

Hope he feels better soon though Smile

The symptom is temperature, not fever. If you don't have a thermometer, feeling warm to the touch is classed as a temperature.

It is rare to get symptoms at the end of the 14 days, but not impossible, hence why the isolation period is that long.

I'd get him tested, and then at least you know.

BTW fingers crossed it is not coronavirus and he is fine!

Thank you I will order a test now. Fingers crossed for a negative, hes vulnerable due to asthma and was really hoping we had escaped it!

I really hope he's ok! I think young people with asthma who are otherwise healthy are still relatively low risk.

Statistically, he's more likely not to have it.

But if you get a test you will know for sure, which is probably for the best if he is vulnerable.

Yes definitely books test. There have been quite a few cases of sickness and temp that have come back positive in children. Particularly in the school's near me. They have issued a request for extra caution around sickness in children.

Dd tested positive. On day 12 of isolation I woke up with loss of taste and smell. Tested positive.
Hope your ds is ok.

Thank you, he has been off his food today and feeling tired as well as the sore throat so it's a good job we have a test on the way.

I'm in South Staffs where the cases are high and we've now been told to test for other symptoms aswell, they specifically mention stomach ache in children.

Hope you get an answer soon.

Must be so frustrating to get to day 13 and then get poorly.

My DS was told by GP he had to get tested for sore throat, cold and dodgy tummy. Waiting for results now

@HeyListenNavi if you have been out and about he may have caught it from you, if you have had it without symptoms.

Hope he is ok

Hope he's Ok. But please keep him in until the test is back (I only felt mildly warm and had a sore throat at the start but tested positive. DH also tested positive and had no temp at all. It's a myth to think you have to be lying feverish in bed to have COVID.)

Thank you everyone, we are awaiting results now and of course isolating. Seems a bit brighter today so hoping for a negative.
