Covid

Loss of taste and smell

Partner tested positive for COVID last Monday, very minimal symptoms just a high temp for half a day. I tested negative.

Within 3 days I developed an awful head cold and lost all loss of taste and smell. Assuming this is COVID, and I seem to be getting better slowly but when can I expect the smell and taste to return?

I can smell nothing at all! The only thing I seem to be able to taste is salt.

Any time from a few days to never. But most likely within a week or two.

I’m still not fully functioning in the smell and taste dept., having likely had Covid mid-March. Some things smell permanently different (can’t bear the smell of onions now, anything with eucalyptus smells like ammonia/wee which I’m gutted about as it was my favourite smell and I have it in candles/bath products etc).

I even worry now about putting too much perfume on, as I can barely smell it when I spray.

Try taking a zinc supplement, loss of taste and smell can be a symptom of severe zinc deficiency, and you can deplete your zinc supplies rapidly fighting a viral infection as zinc has a crucial role preventing viral replication. Also drink green tea and eat lots of brightly coloured fruit & veg (esp red onions/apples) as they help with zinc absorption.

Sorry I'm struggling to understand the timeline. Did you get tested before you were symptomatic? If your symptoms have come on since your negative test, shouldn't you be tested again?
