School pupil A was off school all last week as her parent admitted to hugging others at a family occasion (a week past Saturday).

Parent informed that someone she hugged on Saturday was tested for COVID on the Sunday (the next day). Positive result.

School A pupil and her parent were precautious and self isolated all last week.

All was good. No symptoms for either.

This weekend (Saturday), parent of child A became symptomatic. Was tested, was positive 😨

The question is.....

When should child A isolate until? And why please?

My colleagues and I are disagreeing!

God knows. But isn't it ten days? Or 14. Or 7. God knows honestly. Have had the same discussion at school (work) today

It's really simple. Check the government website which spells it out for you.

It will tell you that the child and all other household members must isolate for 14 days from Saturday (just gone, the day symptoms started).

The parent can finish isolation 10 days from Saturday

14 days from Saturday- the child didn't need to isolate before that point if they weren't actually the contact

Do you count day one of symptoms as day one of isolation for child A then?

So day 15 is the day they can return to school....

Assuming the pupil had no contact with the person the parent hugged then the pupil would have not needed to isolate last well however, the pupil would now need to isolate from day 1 of parents symptoms for 14 days, it’s on NHS website.

Yes, Saturday is the first day because that is the day symptoms started.

Why did the child miss school when they weren't required to isolate?! Confused

I suspect the parent had probably hugged the positive person, and her own child: thus deducing both should isolate.....Sad
