Uti temperature?

23 replies

ohdoriswheresthesalad · 15/11/2020 02:41

I've been putting off ringing the gp for antibiotics for my reoccurring uti for 3 days but relented today. Tried cranberry juice, cystitis relief etc.
I now have antibiotics.
But around 1am I woke with a temperature of 38.7 and could not stop shaking.
I'm worried in case in need to isolate but I'm 99% sure it's to do with the uti?

Paracetamol took it down within the hour but I still have lower abdominal pain and lower back pain.
I'm sure it's the uti?

Any advice?

Many thanks!!

Sounds like a kidney infection. Would definitely speak to OOH if you get any more unwell and the abx don’t start to kick in.

Not sure about the isolating in this instance.

Ps you have my sympathy! Had a kidney infection 20 years ago and it was more painful than child birth! Hope you feel better soon.

@Gunpowder
Thank you for your reply!!

I do suffer from uti and do get temps but think I left it a bit long this time and thought I could manage it at home which is absolutely stupid of me 🤦🏽‍♀️

I'm pretty sure I don't need to isolate as even though I have a temp I have another infection that is being treated?

@Gunpowder
God it's horrendous I think this is the worst one to be honest!!

My own fault for leaving in since Tuesday though 🙄

It’s just awful. Make sure you are drinking enough. Flowers

I guess it’s one of those things where technically you should test? Seems mad to though when it’s obviously linked to the infection. I don’t know!

If you still feel poorly I'd contact ooh sooner rather than later. As infection can lead to sepsis. Sounds like you need antibiotics as soon as possible. Flowers

@Gunpowder exactly like I'm sure it's linked to the infection.
@Flibbertyjibbit I have antibiotics now, I've had 2 today already. Well yesterday 🤦🏽‍♀️ 2 a day for 7 days.
Oh god yeah I didn't think of sepis. Shit I'm worried now. I feel ok right at this moment a bit warm but no temperature. Still pain in lower tummy but I've just been for a wee and it's painful for a while after if you get me?

Thank you both for taking the time to post 😊

Legally you need to isolate and get a test. You can have a UTI and coronavirus.

This does sound pretty nasty though so I would try to get yourself checked out by someone!

I have phoned 111 for advice.
They said they think it's the uti as I've only had 2 antibiotics. If in get any other symptoms then i must isolate but i don't have to at this moment in time.
They mentioned sepsis and hospital admission for iv antibiotics if i do the same today so they can pump them into me quicker.

Oh well done on calling 111. That sounds really sensible. I hope you feel better quickly and don’t need the iv abx but I wouldn’t hesitate to go in if you don’t feel much better later. Flowers

I'm such a fool I literally felt I had one coming Tuesday and I know how I get if I leave it but I didn't want time off work as we're short as it is!

My temperature is slightly raised now hopefully the paracetamol will kick in soon.
No more shaking though so that's good.
I was so scared in the night I'm not going to lie!!

Be careful. That's exactly how my kidney infections started. Sounds like you've pulled yourself round a bit but when I get the shakes like that I've had to go to hosp. If it happens again pls get advice. I was admitted each time so it is serious

@Looneytune253 thank you for your reply.
The shakes lasted about 30 mins.
I've managed breakfast. I'm still absolutely paranoid about covid!!

The shakes are called rigor, very common with any fever.

Which abx have you been prescribed? What’s often prescribed for Uti (Nitrofurantoin, Trimethoprim) might not be enough if it’s travelled to kidneys.

ohdoriswheresthesalad · 15/11/2020 11:13

@WilsonMilson yes nitrofuratonin is what I've been prescribed.
I have no temperature now thank goodness.
I'm drinking lots to try keep myself hydrated.
Fingers crossed it hasn't gone to my kidneys 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

That simply isn't true. Other ppl can have illneses that produce a high temperature. If the temperature can be explained it doesn't need a Covid test.

Agree with @WilsonMilson some times UTI abs don't cover kidney infection so maybe ring GP tomorrow morning and mention new symptoms . I had a UTI this week and left it a bit longer than I normally do to start ABs . I sympathise !

I've not had another temperature since this morning and don't feel horrendous like I did in the night. Antibiotic tonight will be the 2nd full day.
My stomach is so so bloated though!

@girlofthenorth it's awful isn't it!
The burning pain is enough to make me not drink so I don't go which is not sensible I know and I don't do that but still!!
I hope you're on the mend!

You might be on the mend. Nitrofurantoin is one of the ab that have worked for me

Sounds like the abx are working, and Nitrofurantoin for 7 days should be enough. Some GPs now prescribe for only 3, but 7 days are the gold standard imho, and they are narrow spectrum so shouldn’t cause thrush the way broad spectrum will.
You might want to buy some D-Mannose, very effective for keeping away e-coli Uti (most are e-coli).
