Worried about post Christmas peak

Anyone else who believes in this Virus think it's going to be horrific and things will be much worse in the new year? People going all over the country, getting blind drunk etc etc... The majority of people even following the rules now will throw them out the window because they are so Covid Tired...

Yes people I know who followed religiously for months and didn’t leave the house. Are now saying what’s the point if schools are open and the children are spreading it in the community.

It's going to happen (post-Christmas peak) as it happens every January with viruses after the Christmas period, Covid will spread more.

Christmas Day is one thing but the days either side of it people will be mixing and parties on New Year etc.

People need to be careful over Christmas, especially if they have vulnerable family members. Why risk it for one day, if a vaccine is imminent? I'd rather see all my family next Christmas alive and healthy.

OP even if covid is out of control in next year... You are not going to loose half your family to it. Unfortunately some families have lost one family member... Its very rare to loose more than one.
I think its important we keep a sense of reality about this.
All you can do is control your actions and hope for the best.
I know it's hard but it's better to limit worry to what you can control.

For many people the risk of losing a job is far higher than the risk of losing a loved one to covid. Perhaps losing a love one would be worse, but it's less likely.

Are you and half your family extremely clinically vulnerable and/or elderly? If so your point of view is somewhat understandable (although the chances of losing more than one family member are still very slim). If you're all in good health, you're catastrophising.

I do agree we will see a huge jump in numbers following Christmas and it does make me think twice about returning my children to school so close to the inevitable NYE surge.

But most of us won't be losing anyone and those that do are even less likely to be losing a child - and whilst this will be small comfort to those who do, I think you are wildly overstating the mortality risk op, and fwiw, I'm saying that as someone who is extremely clinically vulnerable.

And yes, some people will be losing jobs and that will be a source of stress for than and society as a whole, certainly if it is set against the difficulties around a no deal Brexit, but none of that will be mitigated by behaving like a super vector over the Christmas period, will it?

So,yes, hard times ahead. Cool heads are needed.

It's not just the Christmas peak but what's going on right now especially in our schools. It's also not just the deaths from covid that I'm worried about but all the other deaths that will come due to scaling back appointments. Whilst you may not think that losing a job won't cost lives that's very narrow minded. Many people will struggle to feed their families and keep a roof over their heads and many are suffering terribly with their mental health.

Yes people are tired, tired of being locked down when the risk to us is very small, tired of losing jobs and businesses, tired of not seeing friends and family. Time for everyone to take personal responsibility, shield or get on with life.
