Can I ask, are there figures anywhere for how many people have actually died of other causes within 28 days of a positive test?

I just want to be able to refute the deniers! I'm sure the figure is a drop in the ocean compared to the 50,000+, but would like to be able to quote it!

Or is it tricky because how do you know if Covid caused the (eg) heart attack or not?

I think if they die within 28 days of a covid positive then they are counted in the numbers. I had an older relative with end stage cancer who died in the first wave. He caught covid in hospital but his death certificate said covid, no mention of the cancer.

@Augustbreeze You can look at the numbers who have Covid listed on their death certificate as the cause of death. I think it's 60,000 plus - so actually higher than the numbers dying within 28 days of a test (mainly due to lack of testing early on in the spring, and to a lesser degree people dying from Covid after more than 28 days). It's published by ONS.

Thanks @Firefliess. However the 60,000+ is those with Covid as one of the causes of death, isn't it?

I want to find out how many got "run over by a bus" (or whatever) within 28 days of a positive test so it was counted as a Covid death. Yes, that's what I should have asked in the first place, apologies!

Schools can register as a school, upload what bubbles they have, then parents input symptoms for children and Zoe collates it all and reports to school (who in turn can report to parents).

Schools data may become available, at least to schools. I wonder what the DfE thinks!

This is the second time the guardian have queried the validity of the lateral flow tests.

If used on asymptomatic people I suppose it's better than nothing and will find more cases than only testing with symptoms.

But it's possibly not the holy grail it's claimed to be?

It was previously linked to reports about councils being offered the tests to use how they wished. They apparently are best done by hcp.
