Covid

To refuse to wear a face mask

gindinner · 05/11/2020 18:10

Outside my daughters primary school as I wait for her after school?
I was asked to wear one today as I stood outside the gate so my daughter in year 6 could see me and leave her teacher.
It's not an enclosed space, not even inside the school gate.
So who is being unreasonable? The school with this ridiculous request, or me?

It is guidance that has been passed to schools from the Local Authorities.

I don’t know why you’d need one unless within 2m of someone?

I'm outside the school, outside the fence. I don't think any other school in my area is requesting this.

It's not a big deal to wear a mask for 15 minutes, just get on with it.

Why make a fuss over nothing.

But what if someone is just walking by the school, to get to their house near the school?
That is where I am, outside the school

I would not wear a mask outside unless it was a very crowded area.

Do whatever the fuck you want to as that seems to be the most popular mantra currently on MN.

Scientists know fuck all
Health professionals know fuck all

But someone who reads stuff and is not a sheeple knows best. So follow there advise.

Yep, definitely attention seeking behaviour OP,

A lot of the schools in my area have requested this. Doesn't affect me as my ds10 walks home on his own but I'd do it if I picked him up.

The school is BU. Telling people to wear masks when they are outside and not up close and personal with anyone is the kind of ridiculous and hysterical behaviour which has got us all up shit creek in the first place.

It is not quite reassuring for the teacher to have to have a child in her class whose family gives the impression of not keeping to the rules.

Which rule was OP not keeping to?

Are you in Aberdeen? There was a hoo ha about this on local social media the other day. It’s been requested because grown adults seem unable to adhere to social distancing outside schools.

Can't she leave the school grounds without them setting eyes on you? She's in year six. I'm a supply teacher so I'm in different schools all of the time and it's incredibly rare for year six dc to be dismissed like they are in EYFS.

At school pick up we are definitely not 2m away from every other person at my school. There's isn't enough space at the gate to have a 60m long queue.

Just wear a mask. It causes you no inconvenience at all.

I thought guidance was masks in inside spaces. Outside especially at a distance doesn't seem necessary. They're not science fiction-esque Covid repelling shields. They just stop particles going on you or others when you're close together. If it was crowded or you had to go near the teacher I'd understand it more.

That being said I'd just wear it if they asked me to, it's not really worth fussing over. And it's become a moral issue now, regardless of the situation mask=good, no mask=bad so you were only going to get one response on here OP Grin

I'll post next week asking if I need a mask if I'm alone at the top of a mountain and guarantee some MNers will get their knickers in a twist about it and say I'm being selfish not to.
