I'd presume not.

The wording was along the lines of "you must only leave home to work (if you cannot wfh); exercise; education; essebtial shopping; caring responsibilities"

No, it’s lockdown apart from the listed exceptions.

Funny they didn’t mention travel isn’t it?

Holidays are not essential, so I would imagine it's a no.

Why would they need to? They listed the only reasons you can leave your home. Travel is not one of those reasons.

I'm sure they'll give a full list of restrictions before Thursday but most newspapers online are giving a better idea of what is and isn't allowed.

No travel out of the UK except for work. Travel within the UK 'discouraged' - On Sky News website.

It says you can’t stay away from your home overnight. So no.

No, it’s obvious

I thought holiday home was ok, but advised against.

Travel within the U.K. is Discouraged but not banned!

So we will be going to ours!

It’s not obvious. It says travel in U.K. is discouraged.

What if you are on holiday in the U.K. when the lockdown comes in? Can you finish your week’s holiday?

Report

I thought it was mentioned. Travel discouraged. No holidays.

I didn’t hear no holidays?!

No non essential travel (within the UK or internationally).

That not only makes it less likely this will drag out, but it also makes things much safer for people who have a genuine need to travel.

Remember the SNP MP who travelled on a train after testing positive?
It's that sort of thing we need to avoid.

Who goes away in November anyway?

Not exactly holiday season.

What I saw that boggles me was on sky news it says 'international travel outside the UK is banned except for work purposes". I am about to pop a baby so I am 100% not getting on a plane, but I was thinking how can they enforce that? How do they know that people arent travelling for work? What happens if a relative dies or gets sick abroad and you have to travel to them? I presume they cant stop citizens from other countries leaving to go home. Flights wont actually be cancelled I presume. Also, what about people coming in? You cant turn them around at passport control. It was just the fact they said 'banned' and not 'discouraged'

@SqidgeBum
Many other countries have successfully restricted their borders during the pandemic. At one point more than didn't. We were one of the outliers.

That said compassionate travel, such as visiting a very sick or dying relative, is arguably far more essential than a bankers ski work trip.

Still we're taking a step in the right direction. 8-9 months too late but it's better late than never.

In theory anything is possible - have a look at how Australia handled it, though I don't believe for one minute the UK will handle it the same way.

No non essential travel (within the UK or internationally).

Travel is essential if we want to get to our second home.

I keep posting the wise words of one of the scientific experts advising the Scottish government. She talks so much sense it's worth repeating.
Professor Devi Sridhar:

Oh - to be an island in 2020.

And

22 June- given we had largely crushed the curve- we could have maintained this through expanded testing & tracing and strict checks for re-importation of cases.

And

Two approaches: either keeping borders largely open like the UK, but adopting harsh domestic restrictions to try to combat community transmission; or having very tight border controls, like Taiwan and New Zealand, but few restrictions on everyday life.

Medical
Food
Caring
Work

Exercise
Escape from injury or harm

Holidays are NOT on the list.

My partner's child lives abroad with his mother and we're booked to go over for a weekend in a few weeks for contact.
Given that shared care within the UK is permitted do you think that's an acceptable reason to travel?

They've missed out on so much time together this year already and are desperate to see one another and his 3yo sister
