Are hotels staying open?

Hi I can’t see any information on whether hotels will be open - anyone found any information on this? Due to go to London in about two weeks.

hotels could stay open although its hard to see them having a business just staying open for the the minority of people that have to travel for work

That’s what I’m afraid of @yellowcatss that maybe they can but won’t! Will have to call around a few hotels next week to see if they are planning to stay open and also if they will have their restaurant open / allow takeaways to be brought in as it won’t be possible to go out for food.

Unless you are needing to stay overnight for work, then you can’t go away. The new rulings state “no overnight stays unless for work purposes”

Only in same way they were in the last lockdown - "Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed- including holidays in the UK and abroad. This includes staying in a second home, if you own one, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with. There are specific exceptions, for example if you need to stay away from home (including in a second home) for work purposes." - see www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november for the fullest details they have published so far.

Regardless of if they are open, if your trip to London isn't for work purpose then you can't go.

Sorry but you are not allowed to go overnight. What is more tiresome are People having no issue with breaking the rules or not reading them properly in the first place.

Museums, shops and restaurants will be closed.

As it will be against the law to stay away from home for holiday I very much doubt that hotels will be open for ‘leisure’ travellers.

What is in the Gvt website will become law on Thursday.

I would expect any hotels that remain open will ask for evidence of a work trip or being a key worker as they did last time.

They don’t want to get fined.

Only for work, and I assume essential travel (we traveled and stayed in a hotel to attend a funeral in the first lockdown, which was allowed)

As I said previously I know I can travel for medical reasons. I didn’t ask if I could. I asked whether hotels will be open or not as I couldn’t find specific guidance on this. Thank you all for instead piling on at what is already a stressful time and made more stressful by now having to go in lockdown instead of trying to help. If you didn’t know the answer you could’ve just ignored the thread but why miss the opportunity for a pile on eh!

So ring the hotels near and ask them which is what would have been best. Knew there would be a drip feed. A tread just to get some froth IMO/

Regardless of why you want to know whether hotels would be open- YOU WOULD STILL NEED TO ASK THE HOTEL.

OP, but why not just say In the beginning ‘I need to stay on London after a medical procedure etc, do you think hotels will be open’. No one knows you, you’re not revealing anything personal and you would have got more helpful answers 🤷‍♀️

Try not to be too hard on them all, it's their second official lockdown and they are very excited getting their copies of the rules laminated and setting up cameras on their neighbours.

Like I said- there's no need for anyone to know why the OP needs a hotel at all. The OP would be better asking the hotels directly if they're open

The restaurant in the hotel won't be open, but food deliveries can go ahead, so I'd imagine that they'll change their policies to accommodate that.

They've said that travel is allowed for care/medical/support reasons again. If you switched over to the News channels after the BBC bit, the PM did a Q&A session.

Last time a lot of MNers made up the rules and discounted support needs as a reason to mix. Likewise childcare can continue, if needed, that includes for hospital appointments, mental health etc.

Many hotels are Staffed by people on zero hour contracts with no recourse to public funds. These people need hotels to stay open.

I suppose that we can take comfort in it being 'the same as last time'. We just copy government ministers (from England, Wales and Scotland) and go where we want, then.

Actually I have no skin in this game. I live in Scotland so the lockdown doesn't affect me. I just wish posters would be more transparent so we could give measured answers. No one is sympathetic to someone going on holiday but someone going for medical treatment will be allowed some understanding. Context is all.
