I hope they announce that senior school age children have to wear masks in lessons.

Just that really and teachers of course!

Surely they should be wearing them in the class now?

I don't want this. The extra policing on top of the burdens we are already under will be unmanageable in many settings.

I want this too. Masks and coats on, all windows and doors open. These give us the best chance of keeping schools open.

Already happening in DD’s secondary school (in Scotland).

As a teacher and a parent of a Deaf child, I really hope they don't enforce them during lessons. I do however hope they make them compulsory during lesson transitions and in communal areas.

DS1’s school have been wearing them since September, they have had no cases of Covid. They must wear them 100% of the time, in lessons, corridors and outside.

Me too OP. Maybe if the kids all wore them then the teachers wouldn't have to.

We've had this since start of term (overseas). It's perfectly manageable. Not fun obviously but neither is Coronavirus likely to be.

Very few cases in school.

June to be clear none of us WANT IT want it. It's just the least shit option available. I teach all day in a mask. If pupils wear masks we might actually get schools through the winter without more closures.

Berlin schools are on stage yellow - all Sek II pupils (Y11+) wear masks in class, too. The younger ones only outside of classrooms - but there is less moving from classroom to classroom as it is the teachers who change rooms in a lot of cases.
There are four stages and 4 = red means hybrid lessons and masks+SD+sanitation when in.
His school - as yet - had no cases, but just they restarted after holidays, so we'll see.

I think it would be a good move, because of the ONS figures which show that transmissions in that age group are high.

Could a local benefactor be found to,help defray the costs of masks with clear panels for those in classes which contain someone who benefits from seeing lips?

just restarted
and red = measures for all pupils from y1 = 6 years old

Has been compulsory in Ireland since they went back in August.

I was actually really surprised when I read on Mumsnet that you don't have this in England.

I think from year 2 upwards bar lunch and play time outdoors.

Ventilation is good but it’s going to need to be offset with some decent heating. They won’t learn if cold and will pick up more bugs.

@Focalpoint it would be a bit too much like learning from other countries I guess.

Same here-at the very least.

@Wearywithteens

I think you should spend an entire week as a secondary school pupil - which is hard enough - and do it in a mask before you say that.

They manage it in so many other countries. I manage to teach in mine.

I really hope not. Do you have any idea how many children in mainstream school still rely largely on lipreading?

My two secondary aged children have been wearing a mask during lessons since they went back in September Sad

Yet they seem to manage in a shopping centre without any problems ?

The only issue is that lots of dd's classrooms don't actually have windows.Sad

In would accept this is if in return only the ill child and maybe who they sat with at lunch is sent home when there is a positive test.
