I'm glad it's today! The leaking of these stories is so damaging to so many people who are worrying 😩

Deelish75 Sat 31-Oct-20 12:54:50

Also glad it’s today. You can’t leave people wondering what the hell us going on.

Chris Whitty and Sir Patrick Vallance accompanying him.

WindFlower92 Sat 31-Oct-20 12:56:26

BBC? Just looked and the rugby is on, people won't be happy!

PatchworkElmer Sat 31-Oct-20 12:56:47

Well, I’d rather know today than spend the weekend wondering!

ASchuylerSister Sat 31-Oct-20 12:57:26

It’s so shit of them to leak everything via the press first.

Glad they’re holding a press conference today so we can find out what’s what.

MarshaBradyo Sat 31-Oct-20 12:58:34

Good the waiting is hideous

It’s only just been announced.

Try the news channel or sky news.

I get why they leak it but some clarity will be good.

drinkingwineoutofamug Sat 31-Oct-20 13:02:45

Must be bad boris working at the weekend 🤷🏻‍♀️

mrshoho Sat 31-Oct-20 13:03:05

Has it just been quoted that without action now we will see deaths of 4000 per day?

movingonup20 Sat 31-Oct-20 13:03:06

BBC will move things around or possibly the time will fit in with the rugby, it's last minute! There conversations yesterday has been leaked so they had to bring forward it seems.

Thimbleberries Sat 31-Oct-20 13:04:28

I hope that doesn't mean starting on Monday instead of on Wednesday, but I bet it does. Or at least Tuesday. sad

MushMonster Sat 31-Oct-20 13:06:09

Will watch intently.
Maybe next time they can do the goverment announcement first and the newspapers secondhmm

Thesearmsofmine Sat 31-Oct-20 13:06:22

I’m glad it’s today, I have felt really anxious since I read about the leaks last night which is really unlike me.

Jourdain11 Sat 31-Oct-20 13:07:10

Apparently they are holding the cabinet meeting now. Number 10 very angry that there was a leak. Makes it sound, to me, that they have not absolutely agreed or decided on at least the details.

He won’t say anything new. He’ll say things are bad, getting worse in places, comply to save Xmas, considering further restrictions, schools stay open, work from home, wear a mask piffle waffle piffle waffle.
Then he’ll be forced to come out again mid week and say national lockdown from next weekend.
I won’t be watching.

FedUpOfAllThis Sat 31-Oct-20 13:08:05

On a Saturday, well that’s surprised me. Is he just going to announce the lockdown early or try and blag us all and say this so called leak is inaccurate.

Op Where did you see they were angry at leak?

BlanchflowerTulip Sat 31-Oct-20 13:08:51

Suspect it's a national lockdown. Dismal news all round.

Deelish75 Sat 31-Oct-20 13:09:40

Does Parliament have to vote on a lockdown first? If so then how can he announce one today?

BenchHench Sat 31-Oct-20 13:10:47

Lockdown starting Thursday.

Jourdain11 Sat 31-Oct-20 13:11:20

@MarshaBradyo, it was reported on Sky - am I allowed to link?

I wonder if he'll do a Drakeford? Calling a press conference just to say he'll tell us what's happening on Monday

The Coronavirus Act still allows them to act unilaterally and debate later in the case of emergency. IIRC, this was agreed on the proviso that it would be courteous to ensure debate happened beforehand wherever possible.

If they announce today, before parliament sits, no doubt the government will get a roasting from the speaker, but what does it change? They still have the right to do it... confused
