Covid

Headache and dizziness for 3 weeks, then temperature spike

I’ve had a horrendous headache and a bit of dizziness off and on for 3 weeks now. Spoke to the doctor last week and he said it was probably a bug (where from I don’t know as I’ve not seen a soul other than my elderly housebound father who I’m sole carer for) and to rest and take paracetamol. Headache is still present and on Friday my temperature went crazy (38.4) and is still high now. I feel well other than headache and I’m very tired.

I did a test yesterday and I’m awaiting results, but how likely is it that it’s Covid when I’ve been feeling off colour for 3 weeks? I’m obviously isolating (not altogether sure how my dad’s going to cope alone however), but do symptoms linger this long? I know a headache is quite common with Covid, but seeing as you only have to isolate for 10 days from onset of symptoms, and I’m way past 10 days from when my headache started, will it even show up on a test?

Hopefully your test will come back negative, nothing seems to be a given with all this.

I’m hearing more & more people saying about dizzyness as a massive symptom.
I myself about 4 weeks ago woke in bed to extreme dizzyness it scared the hell out of me, I spent the day feeling hungover type feeling and a few days after that feeling like I would pass out or faint. Obviously I couldn’t book a test as I had no other symptoms but it does make me wonder now if it was it.

It’s a bloody nightmare. Under normal circumstances I’d just assume I had a cold, but now feeling a bit off colour creates panic!

Headaches aren’t unusual for me as I’ve had a brain injury, so I wasn’t overly concerned by that on its own, and I often run a bit of a temperature (under investigation for an autoimmune condition, and apparently it’s common to have a low grade fever), but never this high. I’ve been basically isolating since March as my dads got copd and heart failure, so can’t take any chances. Not seen anyone in close proximity or been in any shops/pubs/restaurants. If I have got it, it’ll be a mystery as to where from!

Yes, I’ve been feeling hungover but without the alcohol! It’s a very weird feeling.

I also have these symptoms, DH had a generic cold 2 weeks a go, I fully expected to catch it but didn't, I only suffered from a headache, dizzyness and stomache cramps. I put it down to either the time of the month or that it was the start of the cold....im still getting headaches on and off and am feeling constantly tired, even though im getting plenty of sleep.
Neither myself or DH have booked or taken a test.

Try not to worry, I know it’s not easy, but you could be waiting a few more days until you get your results. Just try and distance yourself as much as you can from your father.

I’m very distanced as he lives a car drive away and I’m stuck in the house. I’m worrying as I normally do his meals and stuff. He says he’s ok, but I know ok means he’s living on biscuits and sausage rolls!

Could it be sinusitis? I get it quite often and get headaches, dizziness and you can also get a higher temperature as well

Possibly. I’ve had it before and not felt like this, but I did wonder about that. I’m hoping my test comes back negative and then I can ring the doctors and hopefully get to the bottom of it. Annoyingly, I’ve got a hospital appointment on Thursday which I’ve been waiting on for months and finally managed to get a cancellation, so really keeping my fingers crossed as I could do without having to cancel.

I felt really really dizzy and had a temperature on Thursday, tested, I was sick when I woke up Friday morning, got my positive result Friday evening. Not a huge surprise as three other people in my house are positive, I still feel dizzy now on day 4
Hope you get a negative

@Tams1234 did you get your result?

Report
40somethingJBJ · 26/10/2020 15:04

Well, test has come back negative. Spoken to my gp who says it might be a virus, or possibly an infection, but to wait a few more days and see how I go! He asked what my blood pressure is like - no idea as I don’t have a machine, so I offered to go in and have it checked, but he didn’t think it was necessary. So, I haven’t got the rona, but I still feel shitty and have no idea why!

Well I'm glad it's negative. Can I ask your age, it sounds like perimenopausal to me?

Or possibly labrynthitis?

ssd funny you should say this. I had a host of weird symptoms in September that I am presuming are perimenopause but I did wonder at the time if it could possibly be viral because they were so odd and out of the blue.

A nurse at my gp practice told me hormones can be funny things, I've learned when I feel hot and sick and dizzy it's hormonal... It doesn't last as long as 3 weeks but maybe the op has been unlucky?
Also my labrynthitis is all tied up with this, I think.
This was all much worse in my mid to late 40s, now mud 50s I don't get so much trouble.

I’m 42 so it could be hormone related I guess. I’m also under investigation for rheumatoid arthritis which can sometimes cause a raised temperature, but not sure by how much, or if the headaches would be linked to that. I’m going to the chemist to get my blood pressure checked tomorrow however, as I want to rule that out.

Peri meno lasts for a good few years. Have you noticed your periods getting closer together? Mine were every 3 weeks instead of 4 for years, but I didn't really notice.

The head she could be related to hormones however if your cycles are pretty much normal then that’s unlikely.
Also a temp in an adult that high is not hormonal.
Could it actually be that the initial symptoms of headaches started 3 weeks ago so a Covid test now would typically come back negative as it can do that after 8 days??

Yes, that was what I was wondering - if the headaches were the start of it, but I couldn’t get a test back then and now it’s too late to show up.

Could also be hormone related I guess. I’ve recently come off the pill after 14 years, so I have no ideas about my cycle at the minute!

I just feel really crappy.
