Positive test and only symptom is tiredness. Did anyone start off ok and get worse?

I’ve just had a positive test result but feel fine apart from feeling really tired. I’ve had none of the symptoms the NHS list.

Did anyone start off ok but then deteriorate? I’m feeling a bit anxious about it.

I think so many people experience it in different ways. If it does worsen it seems to do so at 5-9 days in. Many of my colleagues didn't know they'd had it apart from being fatigued or the odd sniffle. Hopefully you'll sail through. Take high strength Vit c, Vit D and maybe get a pulse oximeter if you don't have one.

What made you get the test?

I knew there'd be someone on here who would ask what made you get the test.
It may not have been meant in a negative tone. But there are SO many reasons why people have tests other than with symptoms.

Yeah totally didn't mean it negatively, I just wondered. I had a week in needing to be in bed by 830 and it wouldn't have even crossed my mind to get a test. And having booked a test for my son, you have to say that you have one if the three NHS listed symptoms.

So I am just wondering, but well done for such a smug post.

Itisasecret · 23/10/2020 15:35

Yeah I wondered. See we have had a lot of issues with asymptomatic cases and big outbreaks of symptomatic cases in schools. (Low incidence area).

I felt really rough for about two weeks, I don't know if it was sheer exhaustion or what. However I had shooting stomach pains two weeks ago. Followed by an utter exhaustion I have never felt before. Absolutely out of it exhaustion with a headache. I didn't meet the criteria for a test, so just carried on as normal, with the belief it was absolute exhaustion as work has been full on.

I'd like to know also. I will only get a test if I have symptoms I'd like to think so should we be getting tests for one symptom like tiredness?

you do realise that many key workers are being tested once a week every week?

I'm a key worker. Never been offered a test!

I wasn't being snarky. I was wondering if op had an inkling, or a close contact, or a doorstep test, or what?

I did @steppemum yes - thanks

Me and DH tested positive last week. Started off with very mild cough and slight temp. 2 days of a temp and that bit was over. We are left with extreme fatigue, I have a constant headache and we have no smell or taste. But honestly, the tiredness is the worst bit, it's pretty unrelenting!

What made you get the test?

Work are routinely testing staff.

Ah, thanks for answering. So no clue then? Asymptomatic spread concerns me, there's definitely a place for 'blind' testing.

Hope you're OK.

I think it really depends. Its gone right through my best friends family both her parents in 70’s tested positive. They both felt a bit off to begin and put it down to flu jab. My best friend visited them. Two days later her mum struggled to get out of bed & they both went for a test. Both positive mum in bed 3 days dad said it felt like a cold. He has the poorer health record. Then my best friend caught it she experienced it like a cold but because of her parents went for a test and was also positive she has had it very mildly. Then she passed it to her sons and her partner (all had positive test results). One son (early 20’s) quite poorly in bed a few days. Younger son 16 fine. But her partner caught it in his 50’s slightly over weight no underlying health issues and is in hospital with it. So to answer your question OP it absolutely varies. Please rest as much as you can to give yourself the best chance to get over it and do the right thing for your friends, family and wider community. My friend had to have a negative test before going back to work and she was still positive on day 15. For her mum, elder son and partner who had it worse they all experienced severe headaches/head pain.

Thanks for answering OP. I wasn't being sarcastic either, was just curious

A colleague at works DH woke up with a bit of a cough one morning, got tested, positive. He didnt get any worse so fingers crossed you'll feel no worse at all. It def seems to affect people in so many different ways so I understand your concern

That’s really reassuring that you know people who have had it so mildly. I think I’m just in a bit of shock. I’ll definitely stock up on the vitamins and look into getting a oximeter

OP some posters posted on a thread earlier in the week that the symptoms people start out with are often different to what the NHS says these are:

  1. A sore throat with no other symptoms, or,
  2. Fatigue, or,
  3. Fatigue with a headache that will not go away.

Unfortunately due to the official NHS advice ignoring loss of smell and taste for months I take what the NHS say with a pinch of salt. This one of the reasons I got the Covid-19 Zoe app.

That’s how I’ve felt too, exhaustion like I’ve never experienced before. I also have a headache that won’t go away

There’s such a huge variation in how people experience it. Hopefully this will be as bad as it gets for me. I’m not vulnerable in any way.

Sounds like our symptoms were similar then op, no routine testing where I work. Which is crazy really, so I carried on as normal! Couldn't get an NHS test, unless I lied, which I won't. If it was it, the tiredness is out of this world.
