So many areas of England have low numbers so it would seem odd to do so

I think that there may be a circuit breaker but that it's probably too late for them to throw on the breaks to utilise the half term holiday now.

If the short circuit breaker works in Wales to control the speed and ease the pressure on their NHS services then it will be hard for the government to ignore this as a tool when the shit inevitably begins to hit the fan.

The earlier the better. Everywhere as an R above 1 so all exponential growth.

I see posts like this and can't help but think some people are revelling in all this.

RigaBalsam wondered how long it would take somebody to chime up with exponential growth - well done Riga!

I don’t think we will. Yes, half term here is next week but it’s not the same for everyone and independent schools are a fortnight rather than a week anyway.

Might be helpful. I'm in Cornwall and I've lost count of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show listeners ringing up and saying they're having a 'much needed' break in Cornwall. We've overcome the infection since August, numbers were decreasing and now it starts again.... 🙄 Stay where you are! Or at worst don't visit three service stations on the way down...

There's no revelling on my part, thanks. What kind of ego must you have to consider your feelings on the matter to have any relevance to the question?

I hope we do. Surely lessons have been learned from last time when we went into lockdown too late.

Hmm or absolutely hating the waiting and not knowing?

There's no way it'll never happen so rather they just did it. A part of me wonders if they'll wait for it to get really horrific and then do it in November, but then maybe put for Christmas? Ugh.

No, I think the PM is saving a circuit breaker for when every county In England has high numbers and is in the shit. I predict the second half of November.

I don't think we will over half term , suspect he may finish schools week early in December .Though Wales numbers better than England's so imagine Wales better chance of a normal Christmas

No he’d better not. I’ve got a holiday booked. If I can go to school, I can take my own children for an isolated break in the forest.

He’s too stubborn anyway. Boris cannot be told and cannot be wrong. He will not want people to think he copies.

Also, why should there be a blanket lock down? Not everywhere in England has an NHS in crisis. The Welsh lockdown won’t work anyway, he’s still opening schools after half term. Total waste of time and destroying what is left of the economy. No thank you.

"Though Wales numbers better than England's..."

Wales figures are currently slightly higher than England per 100,000 (1149.8 vs 1117.9).

A nationwide circuit breaker needs timing optimally to work effectively. The local restrictions will only work for so long imo. When hospitals in higher case areas become full and start to overflow to other areas, this is when I suspect it'll happen.

I’m assuming we will.
I’m assuming it will be too late to be as effective as it needs to be.
I’m assuming it will be inconsistent with other U.K. and European countries just to confuse us even more.
I’ll assume help for those affected won’t be sufficient or clear.
We’ve learned how this government operates in this crisis. Lurching from one ill thought through decision to another all too late or too little or inconsistent etc.
I’m pretty much locking myself down whether I’m told to or not. When you hear the Belgian prime minster today with lower numbers/rates than us it is sobering.

I think it will happen but goodness knows when. It makes me stressed thinking about it. Although numbers are low in some areas, people seem to forget that the numbers in much of the north were low when we went into lockdown in March. In some places we have been in local restrictions since July it hasn’t worked in stopping cases rising.

Report
TheNortherner · 19/10/2020 16:55

Yes let's introduce another lockdown so that people can rush out to go out/meet up before it comes into force and the numbers spike a couple of weeks later...or is this not what happened in Birmingham and Manchester and I have an overactive imagination?

ktp100 · 19/10/2020 16:56

If they're going to do it it needs to be over half term, which means we'd need to know by friday because some of us are already on it!!
