It seems like it's on the cards but 🤷‍♀️

I think it would be a good idea, but guess they will give the three tiered approach some time first to see what effect it has.

I really hope it does. Just 2-3 weeks.
Let's see if it makes an impact on the spread- it should if it's a proper lockdown.

Also chance for the teaching staff to have more than a week off as they've worked so so hard since being back at school.

I'm all for it.

It seems daft to introduce the tiers and then suddenly leap into a lockdown BUT also seems daft not to capitalise on half term school closures......

I presume that if schools are closed, staff will be expected to provide work online except for half term.

As a result, teachers will in fact have less break than usual, in order to get all the online work up and running for after the half term....

We've been given some extra ppa time in school next week to get online learning ready for the first week of November

Make of that what you will...

In our area a two week half term is being discussed with no online teaching as there are so many staff either off isolating/ill or utterly exhausted from covering the lessons of those who are off.

Leaked documents for us in Wales suggests primary schools will stay open after half term but the secondary schools will stay closed for 2-3 weeks.

Closed closed, or moved online?

yup - as I expected a two week shutdown for schools over half term. I suppose those MNers who very rudely told me I was talking rubbish when I posted about this a couple of weeks ago will be posting shortly .......

Moved to online learning.

That's not what will happen though. Teachers will be teaching online/setting work and basically doing what they usually do out of the classroom. I dot for a moment imagine teachers will have an extra weeks holiday.

Okay, reading that letter then I’d be very surprised if England don’t do the same then. Husband is a secondary teacher and I’m on maternity in the same job and colleagues are all agreeing it seems likely.

Exactly. Making the move online will probably mean less holiday rather than more.

I'll be surprised if Wales do it but England don't.. but then stranger things have happened.

Seems sensible

I'm glad we're doing this approach. The 3 tiers approach England is doing just seems so confusing and your getting places like Manchester refusing to go into tier they should be cause of the lack of financial support. Sage said a circuit breaker was needed, maybe England will follow suit... but who knows with this government.

Teachers coming on here and saying they are preparing isn't helpful really, they don't get anything leaked before us so I wouldn't take that as a hint. I can't see it happening as they will want to see if the tier things make a difference

Report
KetoPenguin · 17/10/2020 21:42

I don't know if they will but it makes sense to do it over half term to minimise loss of time at school. That doesn't give people much warning though but they do love to spring it on us.

If England are going to do it they need to hurry the fuck up and say so so people can prepare

Surely they will give a bit of notice. Some people are planning on travelling over half term....

There are GCSE exams the first week of November so provision for them would have to be made.

I agree with this.

Also Boris won’t want to be seen to be doing something that Starmer wants/suggested!

What about the GCSE resits scheduled for the week comm 2nd Nov? Surely they wouldn't cancel those again?
