Can anyone explain isolating before a procedure to me please

I have read The guidance which says I must isolate or my whole house must isolate for 7 days in order to have a procedure done

Can my son still go to school?

I had to do this recently, it only applied to me although they noted I lived with others. I was tested 2 days prior to the procedure.

If the whole house needs to isolate then no he cannot go to school. If only you need to isolate then he can but only if he can stay a social distance away from you at all times. It is absolutely essential that those who are asked to isolate before a hospital procedure do so properly as the consequences of Covid getting into a Covid negative area of the hospital could be devastating.

There have been other threads which make it clear to me that each Trust has their own policy on this. At mine we swab two days before the procedure, and the patient must isolate between swab and procedure. Their household doesn’t have to isolate with them, just the patient.

It’s best if you ring the secretary and ask.

Yes it's at a private hospital and it's a totally covid free hospital

So I wonder if I can send him to school but I'll stay in another room to the rest of the house

Sounds like you both self isolate. You cant totally self isolate from somebody you share kutchen/bathroom facilities. Your son going to school woukd prevent your isolation.
Only way is if youre not in a restricted area and your son can stay with family.
Your choice though.
