This notification has just popped up on my phone. No further information in the app.

What the hell am I supposed to do with this, does anyone know?!

Ignore it, there some newspaper reports about how it's some bug in the app

The government say it's Google and Apple's fault, but no other country using their software has had the problem.

Another government mess up. Ignore it.

It means nothing. My son got this message Monday morning and phoned to ask. He was told it meant he needed a test which is incorrect. Luckily he got a test quickly and it was negative. But if even the people running the app don't know what it means what is the point. World class bollocks. It could have been a false positive and self employed DH could have had 2 weeks of zero income for no reason. And they wonder why some people are dubious.

I got this to and really worried but couldn't find any info in the app

Does it not just show the app is working and doing what it's supposed to do? It will just store the info and then if required you will get advised that you are an actual contact rather than a possible one

The people who created the app must know what it means and why its was triggered. That's how programming works. Someone has to create the alert. These applications dont program themselves

It would be helpful to have some info about what we're supposed to do in the meantime. If that is "nothing different", I'd rather they just waited until it was a firm "do something!".

The message looks different to the one I'd seen on other news reports but the same as the one quoted on Sky, thanks for the link.

It's just a notification, isn't it - telling you what the app is doing, not giving you instructions on what you should do.

I think it'll be quite clear if you need to act upon anything.

The problem is you just get this alert with no information about what it means. Basically all it means is you might get an alert and you don't need to take any action. It is therefore pointless and means phone lines are tied up unnecessarily. If the people on the phone line also give incorrect advice, as they did to my son, test centres are also tied up unnecessarily. Then you have the added risk of false positives causing people to lose income. Just bad design of the app.

On the Scottish app we just get a weekly message with how many times the app has checked info with another phone.

It means you’ve been in contact with someone who now has Covid. Don’t worry, you may have just passed them in the street and your Bluetooth keys exchanged. What happens now is test and trace examine the data to see if there was an ACTUAL chance you may need to isolate, then will be in touch if you need to. I have had the notification twice, the first time no further action, the second time within an hour I was told to isolate for nine days. 8 days to go Smile

This is the notification that I got an hour later the second time.

Thank you, this is really helpful. Hope isolation is going ok!

I do think it’s a bit of a silly notification, because it stirs up worry and is pretty useless. I think just the one notification to be told to isolate is plenty! Isolation is fine, I am lucky that I can wfh, hopefully you don’t need to though fingers crossed!!

Did you get a notification the first time to say no further action? Or do they just not send anything further?

I got the app on Saturday, went out on Sunday, and got notifications on Monday.

The first one told me to self isolate, like the pp above, and the second one just said to seek a test if I develop symptoms.

Funny though, because I definitely wasn't near any one. Just in a desolate caravan by the coast. No one around.

When I load the app back up though to show my employers I need to isolate, the notification has gone so now I'll have to remember to screenshot any more that I get.

The Times was reporting a third false positive notifications the other day, due to Bluetooth or something Hmm

I don't get that but DH does. Makes me think it's not working properly...

If there’s nothing in the app itself you can ignore it.! It’s showing the app is working, but I believe they’re working on stopping these notifications coming up.

The "signal strength" of the exposure??? Puts tinfoil hat on.... So it IS caused by 5g after all

Report
dementedpixie · 01/10/2020 13:50

Maybe get a higher signal strength the closer you get to the other person so it can judge if you are closer than 2m?
