Covid

Why are there never any public health announcements?

We could do with some couldn't we? Reminding people to wash their hands and wear masks etc Or is none of this important anymore? I though it was.

Maybe I'm missing all the public health announcements ...

You can't blame people for forgetting to do these things if you don't keep reminding them in the first place.

We get a weekly email from our local director of public health covering all this sort of thing - cases decreasing in our local area

There are loads! I can't watch or listen to anything without an update of some sort. It's bloody annoying. I'm in Scotland.

Shouldn't there be public health announcements on TV/radio and posters everywhere?

I know this costs money. But it might help prevent the spread of Covid - and thus save the NHS some money etc

Where are you? They are on every tv/radio as bread in Scotland

There’s plenty on commercial radio and tv.

Loads on my commercial radio station in NI - they've been on since March, they get changed with every new message/restrictions. At the minute it's one concentrating on isolating, getting test.

They are grim. You might be actually feeling alright for once, maybe having a laugh in the car with the mods, the the dulict tones of Jason Leitch burst your thing veneer of happiness to remind you that you can't visit your loved ones, people are dying and life is shit. It's like a sick dystopian movie.

That's because there are no adverts! The other TV channels and commercial radio have loads; I have to say I find them a bit creepy - they always remind me a bit of something from a dystopian film - but they definitely exist. Those changeable motorway/road signs have also all been changed to the various slogans (so they were 'stay home, protect the NHS, save lives', now they're the annoying 'hands, face, space' thing) around me.

Cross-post on the dystopian film reference, clarencesmum! To me it's the fact they feel a bit like state propaganda - for a good cause, but in a way that feels quite unfamiliar - that makes it feel like that.

Great minds! I shop in Lidl and every 5 minutes a voice boosms out telling you to be kind to other customers and to keep your distance and wash your hands. It makes me feel like I'm in Wall-E

I’m in a village in England. Poster on bus stop. Ads on TV and radio. Always top item on weekly email from the council. Facebook pop ups. Covid “advertising” is plentiful.

Public Health England have spent £44 million on advertising, which made them the biggest advertiser in the country during lockdown: www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/media/2020/aug/04/uk-advertisers-spend-covid-lockdown-coronavirus

I'm in England and have seen announcements from the government on the BBC on quite a few evenings. The one I have seen most recently has various people declaring why they wear a mask/wash their hands/give people space. And has someone standing with their arms outstretched while they talk about space.

Fairly obvious signage in Bolton!

Why are there never any public health announcements?

Gosh - maybe I’m tuning it all out. I do that with advertising generally.

Perhaps I’m just blind and deaf to it all.

Plenty of them in our coop, today. They even treated us to "hands. Face. Space." as if we'd been living under a rock for the past 6 months.
