This is what I heard when I turned on the news just a minute ago...by demonstrators in London today...I'm actually really shocked. Do people really think this?? There were A LOT of people at the demonstration...

There are a lot of stupid people out there.

Idiots who should have been banned from assembling and arrested when they did.

Statistically decent chance there were some MumsNetters among the protesters. Maybe one of them will show up to explain.

Stupid that they are, you can sort of understand why they might believe the far right conspiracy theories. Afterall despite the supposed restrictions they've been allowed to congregate together in large numbers for a mass mask-less gathering in a part of the country where more than a million vulnerable people (elderly, underlying conditions) live. Travelled there on public transport too.

treebarking · 26/09/2020 19:26

There were so many people there crowded together and no masks at all. Lots of conspiracy theories etc but the 'doctors are all being paid' really shook me as an NHS worker....do they think we are all being paid? What do they think we've been doing for the last 6 months??!!

And yes - can't believe it wasn't dispersed. Or banned.

I think a global pandemic with nearly a million dead officially and cases increasing daily is so mind blowingly terrifying people just cannot cope with it.

A conspiracy is easier to deal with.

People have the right to protest and demonstrate for whatever reason they want whether the majority of society agree with them or not. As long as its done peacefully (for the most part) then no they shouldn't be arrested. As for those who don't demonstrate peacefully there's always a certain crowd to any demonstration that are there just to purely cause havoc regardless of the cause.

I was there. No, I don't believe corona doesn't exist, what I believe is that the measurements combating corona will end up doing more damage such as pushing people into poverty, mental health damage, cancer deaths etc. There was thousands of people there so I can't say what all of them think obviously, but of course journalists will choose the most out there interviews to air on TV.

The only plausible conspiracy theory is the government wants to kill off Londoners?

Clearly it would be immoral and reprehensible...but some people really make me wonder if a future society will have some sort of general aptitude/competence test to pass before being allowed to procreate.

It was. They had submitted a risk assessment for the protest bad were legally allowed to do so but when the protest failed to meet the measures in the risk assessment, police moved in to disperse them.

@JKRowlingIsMyQueen surely by gathering in such numbers increases the likelihood of another lockdown? Doing the exact opposite of what you want. If you want no lockdown hugely encourage people to socially distance, wear masks wash hands, work from home etc

I don’t think it is so ‘utterly terrifying’! Everyone is going to die from something! Please have some perspective. Look at the official digit lees for how many people die globally from TB, or dementia, or starvation for gods sake. I find it concerning that anyone who disagrees with you should be arrested, it simply means that those people were right to protest. You are all losing your minds
