Coronavirus mild/moderate symptoms

I constantly hear people say they 'just have a cold' or 'no test required for this cough as its obviously a cold'.

Just a thread to say: equip yourself with knowledge. The 3 symptoms listed by the UK government are in no way exhaustive and a 'continuous' cough (whatever that means) is not the only or even the most common way that coronavirus manifests. (easily the most common way this disease manifests is with no symptoms whatsoever).

A study by the European Centre for Disease Prevention found that mild/moderate cases presented with essentially the exact same symptoms of any cold. Headache, sore throat, blocked nose, runny nose, cough and others.

Severe cases presented most often with the 3 identified symptoms.

You probably do just have a cold (since the test positivity rate is 3% or less and less than 1% in children) but if you haven't had a negative test, you have no idea if that is true or not. The absence or presence of a runny or blocked nose is not an indicator that you do or don't have it, and neither is the frequency of your cough.

Where do you draw the line for getting a test though? headache, achy legs, sickness etc? There are a ,limited amount of tests and should only be taken by those with specific symptoms. In my daughters class in the last 10 days, 7 kids have had tests and they all tested negative, becasue they had a cold. Thats potentially 7 tests that werent available to genuine cases.

Not saying that you should get a test if you don't have the symptoms - clearly you shouldn't. Just spreading awareness that it may not present differently to a cold, but as the most common symptom is no symptoms, everyone should be acting as though they may have it and social distancing as required. If you do have cold symptoms then your risk of having it, and spreading it, is higher than when you have no symptoms.
