I’m 99% sure it’s a cold, he’s had it for about a week and it has been entirely cold symptoms, no fever, blocked up nose, slightly sore throat.

He’s just appeared and announced his Coke smells like lavender. On this basis alone - try and get a test?

Well it could be his cold to make him not smell things right?
I would wait and see if he has other symptoms but definitely isolate until you do.

That’s what im hoping neverdull
He doesn’t have a temperature or a cough...
I have caught it and it is a cold.
The thing is my friend’s husband had it (works in nhs and antibody positive) and the only symptom he had was one day where beer tasted and smelled differently. That was it.

What age is he?
Children can be largely asymptomatic.
It sounds like he has a cold tbh.
I would just wait and see.
If he is still complaining later on that he cant taste or smell then get a test [If you can] especially if he is a child.

Also, if he has had it for a week and no one else has symptoms, chances are its just a cold. Ive had three colds since term started!

If he's had it about a week, it might be a bit late mightn't it? I thought you needed to get test within 4-5 days of symptoms starting??

Can you both isolate for another week?

If he's that blocked up colds can make stuff taste funny. I wouldn't bother, it's probably the cattargh making his taste weird. And it's been over a week so there's no point anyway.

Changed sense of taste/smell is one of the triggers for testing. If you can get a test for him - I appreciate the issues with access - you should.

His symptoms started when coke smelled funny not when his cold started. Can you test him on other things?

If he has a blocked up nose, I wouldn’t worry about the smell thing. DD had a cold last week - runny nose, sore throat and a cough. She couldn’t smell but could taste things. We did get a test and it was negative, just a cold.

When has anyone had a cold that changed the smell of their coke to lavender? Unless I’m in the minority and find this utterly bizarre as I usually get dullened taste and smell with a cold but not like that.
Yes get a test, it’s one of the symptoms to test.

How hard is this?? Everyone knows change to sense of smell / taste is a symptom!!! Get a test - you’re still in the window. And stay home!!!! (From a teacher who doesn’t want to catch this from people who can’t understand a basic instruction)

If everyone who has covid thought 'it is just a cold' we would never know who does and doesn't have it.
Symtoms for testing, new persistent cough, fever and loss of taste or smell.
Your child has one of these. Get a test.

I agree coca cola does smell like lavender. Never thought about it before, but it's true.

Get him to sniff some more things. Is it only coke that smells odd or other stuff too?
If in doubt though, get tested. It's one of the 3 defined symptoms that triggers testing.

Smell the coke to ensure it doesn't smell of lavender (if a cleaning product has leaked onto the can/glass or even large amounts in the cupboard it was stored in it is entirely possible) but yes if it doesn't it's grounds for getting a test.
