Being asked to wear a mask on playground at school pickup

Just had an email from primary school to say only one person allowed to pick up and they must wear a mask. It seems to have come from our local council so I am wondering if this is the case in other areas.
I have to say it seems a bit much as we are all outdoors, spaced out and we already have a staggered kick out time.

Just wear the mask. You won't be there for long.

We have the same policy. It seems slightly farcical as we all queue (more or less socially distanced) outside the gate, don our masks to shuffle in a queue through the playground) then take them off when we leave the school site.

It really doesn't bother me tbh.

I find playground pickups incredibly busy with virtually no distancing so I choose to wear a mask already.

Don't think it's been mandated here yet but it can't hurt.

We have had to for the last two weeks and lots of schools in our area do also.

For goodness sake. Just wear the bloody mask. It is for a few moments, it could save someone getting ill or dying.

Same around here. I can't see why you think it's an issue?

Not here, yet. I think it’s unnecessary but I wouldn’t complain about masks. The one person thing is completely impossible, I would have to bring young siblings but I can understand them discouraging multiple adults from coming to pick up.

we had to pick up children who were being sent home to isolate. it was surprising how many of the parents weren't wearing a mask considering at least one child in the year had tested positive.

We aren’t allowed in the grounds at all the kids are brought to the gate at their time so we haven’t been asked to wear a mask in the queue. There are marks on the path to space the queue.

I drove past our local primary school yesterday as the nearby secondary school was kicking out and primary parents queued to collect....it was utter bedlam! There was barely a rizla paper between people so yes, I can see why under those circumstances you would be asked to wear a mask. It depends on the circumstances but I imagine mask wearing will become more prevalent.

I find it irritating that the staff bring the children out (reception ) by the hand without any masks or PPE , having worn masks inside all day?! Keep the damn things on!

Yes happens here. Makes complete sense to me. What’s the problem?

Ffs. She hasn’t said she isn’t going to wear one! Are people not allowed to think “this seems a bit much” without being accused of not caring if someone dies.

We've had to do this since the 2nd or 3rd week the kids went back so the best part of a month now.

I don't see the problem with it tbh

It's not 'a bit much' it's a small additional safety measure that is easily and cheaply applied and certainly won't do any harm. Wear the mask

But that's the whole point - teachers aren't wearing PPE all day!

Did I say I wasn’t going to wear the mask? Just curious if it is the general rule.

Well it is a local authority precaution isn't it not everything has to be "a rule"

Been policy since they opened back up in September here.

Report
GreyishDays · 25/09/2020 15:01

Not a rule here but I can see the sense. It acts as a reminder to keep your distance too.

Most primary school staff don't get to wear PPE.

Agree, it's totally pointless - it's in the open air for just a few mins. The risk of transmission must be tiny. Different situation altogether compared to a crowded tube train. This race to just add 'one more later of safety' is absurd. Fine if the science says there's a point, I just cant believe there's a point here.

Plus not to mention I'd hate to be the teacher trying to be sure which parent is which when hoods are pulled up and masks are on too. Safeguarding nightmare.

It's not done in our school by the way to answer your question.

We have to wear masks for nursery pickup, I just do it out of courtesy as it's only five mins. They're not bothered if more than one person comes to do pickup though, sometimes DH has time to come with me to pickup and it's nice for dd to see him. It doesn't get busy as pickups are staggered.
