Covid

Are you going to get a private flu jab this year?

If you’re not usually eligible for free NHS flu jabs, are you considering paying for one?

I never have before but I think I will this year...

(I know Covid isn’t Flu but it’s one less thing to worry about??)

Yes I’ve already booked mine. DH and I are self-employed so we always get one as if we get ill, we can’t earn - we’ve never had any side-effects other than a slightly sore arm the day of the injection

Yes. I usually do as I am self employed and can't afford not to work.

Yes had it today. The arm ache is kicking in.

Yes, in fact it is booked in at Boots for later on this week. I had a very bad flu for the first time in my life in Feb. In fact I think I had Covid and I never want to feel that ill again. It took me months to get over it fully.

Yes if I can get one, a close family member has cancer so we are doing everything we can to protect them

We are all booked for Boots and the first one has already been cancelled (and rebooked ‘possibly’ in October but the ‘system is down’ so we have to check later)... same happened last year.

I get NHS but DH (52) and Dd1(17) are getting the private flu jab this year. Dd2 (5) will get it at school (nasal spray).

Yes. I normally get it at a chemist when I pass.

Seems even more important this year, I’ve also tracked down a chemist that can do the secondary school children.

Yes in October. I got one in Feb too so I hope that's ok (the vax is different each year isn't it?)

Bumping this thread to see whether anyone else is finding it impossible to get a private flu jab? I’ve been trying to book one for weeks but can’t find appointments anywhere for love nor money.

megletthesecond · 27/10/2020 15:37

I had mine in Boots a couple of weeks ago.
I booked it at the very start of Sept.

Me and DH already had it at Tesco - first one we’ve ever had!

Report
Orangeblossom7777 · 27/10/2020 16:08

Yes, I got one free as did DH, as he got a shielding letter this year, DS1 got one as year 7 and paid for nasal one for DS2

They are prioriting at risk groups and the elderly which is why not many appointments I think. Meant to be more as stocks become available

No, I've never had one. I didn't realise they were so common until this year (but I don't have kids yet and don't meet anyone over 50 more than four times a year now I'm WFH). Also never had the flu, though I realise that's anecdotal.

Torvean32 · 27/10/2020 16:19

Yes I'll pay for private as soon as one is available.
I hope the greater uptake of flu vaccines will mean less hosoital admissions through flu . And also reduce the chance of getting flu and Covid together.

I was going to but cant get an appointment anywhere.
