Help with isolation rules...

Ok so i think...

if my husband has symptoms he needs to get tested and self isolate until negative result (or 10 days if positive)

We (the household) have to self isolate for 14 days unless we get symptoms then get a test and self isolate for 10 days after positive or if negative no need to self isolate further. We cannot get a test without symptoms even if dh positive?

Is this correct? My husband says his work mate (no contact) says he had to self isolate because daughters friend had a positive and even though work mate has since had a negative test (no symptoms) he still has to self isolate for 14 days?

My brain is fried!!

You are right.
Husbands workmates is half right.
If his daughter has been in contact with a positive case, the DAUGHTER must isolate (stay at home, not leave house/garden) but the rest of her family are free to go to the shops/work/school unless someone starts showing symptoms.

Oh, slight modification to your thoughts - if you get a test because you start showing symptoms after your husbands positive test, you still have to sit out the 14 days isolation, or 10 days from showing symptoms. A negative test doesnt remove the need for 14 days isolation if you have been in close contact with someone with covid.

Was the work mate around the daughters friend? If so, he need s to self isolate for 14 days despite having a negative test, as he may not have had Covid at the time of the test but may develop it within those 14 days after the contact.

I think you only self isolate from 10 days from your symptoms starting not from the test result..

Thank you, I think I get it, the work mate hasn't been in contact with his daughters friend so doesn't need to self isolate.

We do unless we get symptoms then we can get a test?
Then either carry on the 14 days or ten if positive?
And that's everyone in household so kids can't go back to school/ college for 14 days unless symptoms then test?

Then rinse and repeat and possibly bury dh under patio or dunk myself in gin depending how long each darling household member takes to show symptoms??

And if DH has a negative test are we all in the clear and no isolation?!

Negative test means end of isolation for all (except DH if he still has a high temperature).
Positive test means isolation for 10 days for him and 14 days for the others, if during this time one of more become symptomatic and subsequently test positive they must remain in isolation for 10 days from start of symptoms even if this goes beyond the original 14 days and if they subsequently test negative they must remain in isolation for the original 14 days.
