Can’t get a test

Am in a pickle, my dd started feeling unwell last night, today she is running a temp of 38.6 on Calpol, complaining of a sore throat, tiredness and diarrhoea.

I rang 119 and they advised that she was tested, but I don’t drive, my nearest walk in centre is an hour away and there are no postal tests available. They told me to try again after 8pm online and it’s still showing as none available.

Will keep trying we are literally a week back into school, it’s probably a ‘normal’ bug, but I can’t send her to school with that temp. I also work with vulnerable children and can’t risk them being exposed to covid.

Just fed up, I guess there will be many people in the same position over the coming weeks/months. The lack of tests is a worry.

I’m in the same situation with a ds who has similar symptoms. Can’t get a test, it’s a scandal.

There is a backlog 18500 tests. The tests are being sent to labs in Germany and Italy which is why there's a delay on results too. So I'd just say keep trying.

If your daughter has diarrhoea she needs to wait 48 hours after the last episode before she went back to school anyway. So

I booked a postal test this morning just after 9am! It says 2 days for delivery.

Yep. This was me a week ago. Hundreds of us on here commenting every day. We got our postal test Wednesday night, did it and posted back Thursday teatime - not easy to do to a child, so be prepared- results came saturday tea time and I've just taken DD back into school this morning and forwarded school an email copy of the test.

I’m hopeful it will come by Wednesday and we can be back in school/work next week too. I work in a school and last week we had 2 staff off awaiting testing and this week ‘several’ more as it says on the morning briefing email. This is a situation that’s going to keep happening indefinitely.

My online test came next day, delivered by amazon. I got a dispatch email with a tracking number so hopefully your test is with you tomorrow and in enough time for you to send it back off.

We can't get a test. Trying since yesterday. We are all stuck at home indefinitely till I can get one.

My advice is to keep refreshing. We took it in turns for over 3 hours and suddenly loads popped up.

I know it shouldn't be that hard and that not everyone has the time to it but that's how we got our tests booked.

Our test arrived next day but at 6:15pm and the latest post is 6pm so we couldn't send back until the next day. We just received my son's postal result at lunchtime for a test we sent back on Thursday.

@ZofloraMummy did you get one? We were fleetingly offered one 2 and a half hours drive away, thought about how to get there for 2 seconds then it was gone like gossamer in the wind. Crazy situation.
