Handhold - child with symptoms

I'd really appreciate a handhold, talking down if anyone is around this early.
I'm feeling ridiculously anxious at the moment.

My DS has only been back 4 days, started with a runny nose yesterday evening no temp, no cough, so hoped it was just a cough. Fast forward to now, and his temp has shot up to 38.5 and has started coughing. The cough freaked me out as it's not like a cough I've heard him have before, almost like a barking cough, v dry.

I'm just feeling so sad and fed up of the whole situation, I'd only just in the last month started to get to a point of acceptance and able to socialise more etc as my anxiety has been so bad over the whole Covid scenario.

We've got vulnerabilities in the family and this has just tipped me

Obviously will get a test booked ASAP in the morning and isolate. Just needed to vent and let off anxious steam.

It's very difficult and worrying. There is a cold bug going around involving high temp, upset tum and cough. It's not covid, most of the children in by kids schools have it.

8am for a test and keep at it. Refresh your page.

It's a rubbish situation to be in without having to contend with the testing debacle.

Ok, the steam thing seems to be outdated, sorry! Barking cough sounds like croup to me, especially middle of the night. It sounds really freaky

I'm just upset that it's been 4 days and we've already hit this wall, I'd hoped it would have lasted longer as the DC have been so so excited to be back.

My DH had a dentist appointment yesterday as well for a procedure and now I'm panicking that he's potentially spread Covid there - do you think we should phone them in the morning to give them the heads up of the situation?

No wait until test positive before informing them otherwise they will only worry/panic about something that may turn out to be nothing

I was told to take them outside/by an open window for cold air when I took mine to a+e once for this - it was much better by the time we got to a+e and they said that was common because of the cold air. That was a while ago as well though, and though google still suggests it as a treatment it isn't on the nhs website

Ah ok, it was the 'barking' that made me thing croup, plus the middle of the night on the back of a viral infection. It's a really distinctive barking sound so if it doesn't sound like that, it probably isn't

Covid in children is unusual to have cough as a symptom, to make you feel better while you wait til morning. Obviously our shit covid symptom list doesn't reflect that but this is the latest info

Take a few deep breaths and maybe make yourself a herbal/decaf tea. Hope your little one is ok and you manage to get a tray. Don’t worry about hypotheticals like the dentist at this stage. Focus on your DC and getting a test x

Set an alarm to try get a test again at 8am when they supposedly release more, fingers crossed, tried twice now but having no luck.

I actually would. They may do a more thorough clean etc

Good luck OP. It's worrying but hopefully not Covid. Sorry for the poor testing scenario that must be adding to your worry. There is a lot of other stuff going around at the moment. Try to get some rest.

Don’t worry about the dentist.
We are being so thorough with cleaning and PPE anyway at the moment. Everything is cleaned between patients.
Obviously need to know if your DH or son test positive though.

This was us Monday night. Dd2 had done one day of school the. That night cough, wheezing and temp
Tbh I was more stressed about the isolation and missing work and dd1 missing school.
Test ordered.. negative and we were all back at school and work by Thursday.
Hope you can sort a test asap.

There's definitely something going around that's spiking a fever as well as cold symptoms. I remember my family and I all had cold but high fevers as well, 38 to 39c, and coughing after recovering. It was a very odd virus but it can't have been covid as it was a few years back now but everyone is saying the same symptoms on here, test showing up negative so certainly another virus going around now that the weather is colder. Hand hold and sympathies here x

There is a nasty cold bug going round which causes a cough and high temp. My little boy was off school with it earlier this week and we had to get him tested. It was negative and he's fine now.

I don’t know where you live but there are walk in test centres, many of which don’t need an appointment. It is more than likely just a cold so don’t panic but get him tested to be on the safe side.
