Must leave contact details

They are saying pubs cafes etc must leave contact details. I noticed in costa they had a barcode thing to scan at each table. But no one is enforcing this or clear on what app you are supposed to be using. Or indeed what to do if no smart phone.

What have you seen in other places? I’ve not been anywhere else so hard to guess.

The only pub we use has a QR code that leads to a website where you report your presence there. The pub does not check you actually register, though. The restaurants we eat at know us personally so have never asked us for contact information as they already have it. I have heard them asking for phone numbers when taking reservations. Our gym/golf club makes each table complete a form and won't serve until that has been done.

Yes it was a QR code but no information how to use it? I assume you need the right app to scan it but there was nothing. Long term iPhone user so not totally useless on technology front but I was baffled.

QR app is easy to find and download I did it whilst on holiday and the amount I know about tech you could put on a postage stamp

I’ve notice places like mcdonalds and Costa only have a qr code scan thing and no enforcement or encouragement to use it, although our mcdonalds today were asking people to sanitise hands.

Tesco cafe took my details at the till. I’ve been to a few chain pubs for food and they seem happy to take the lead persons contact info (although we are all a family of 3) but then an indoor dent restaurant wanted every persons information (I suppose you could be on a date etc so not in the same bubble).

I do think it needs to be stricter. Even checking ID for address etc. I’d assume some people just leave false info.

Where I work we encourage reservations, and take contact details of all bookings as a matter of course on the online booking system. If we have walk-ins, they can’t be seated until giving us a name and phone number per party for track and trace.

Local pub we go to has a different system, mobile number on a notice in each table, asking for a name and contact number to be text to the mobile number, with date and time of visit.

It's entirely voluntary. If someone doesnt want to do it it's thier right. We don't stop people eating at my work if they don't.
You are not obliged to give personal details to anyone in a shop or cafe.

Is it still voluntary after today?
I noticed on here the other week people were proudly saying they'd lie and give fake details if asked which beggars belief.

Places are obliged to take details now though aren't they? Could they refuse service if a customer refuses to give details? Is it just names and numbers?

It’s now not voluntary after today’s announcement. Venues must take contact details.

No, venues are legally obliged to REQUEST the information for track and trace. You are fully within your right to say no. The qr scanner is a solution to this meaning staff don't get loads of abuse from people knowing their legal rights about their personal Information

That’s I will look up a QR app to start with.

I was told in a chain pub the other day that I didn't have to enter my details if I didn't want to. Same day went to M&S cafe, they had a tiny sign with qr code and we weren't asked to use it. T&T can't work if it's like that.

Down loaded a QR code reader from App Store. Then says it’s 3 days free and then 8.99 a month. I’m not paying to use an app for track and trace.

You don’t need an app. Just open your iPhone camera and point it at the QR code.

Everywhere I have been has been booked with my name and phone number.

I thought this was already a thing if you eat in somewhere....for test and trace? However we went away recently and ate out maybe 4 times.
Once was in a pub, the owner took our name and contact number, once in an italian restaurant (no one asked, and there was no obvious instruction or QR code, ) same in an icecream parlour and the last time was a restaurant where we ordered by app so they would have info from that.
DH went in wetherspoons on the way home from work a few weeks ago and said there was a list by the bar but barely anyone wrote their details on it.

Thanks that would be easier! I’m in my 40s and never had scan a code yet.

This.

It’s really straightforward.

Yep just hold it in front of your camera, and it will 'see' it and take you to the correct website to enter your details

While I obviously think it's a good thing for T and T, I fear it's just another thing to add to (usually low paid) staffs work remit. I imagine a lot of places are working with reduced numbers of staff....who have to do extra cleaning/sanitizing etc....and now have to encourage or ask customers to wear masks/ provide details and deal with the response if they dont comply.....

Don't usually need an app. Just use your camera and it will auto recognise it.

Starbucks I scanned myself using their QR code and it put me in another city with no way to change it! Ridiculous! Test and Trace is a disaster!

I have a Samsung and I have to open the inbuilt QR app, just holding the camera at it does nothing.

Went to a cafe today and they had the QR code system. I scanned it and then didn't fill it in. I find it very intrusive, I was sat in the garden at a table away from anyone else. It was table service from a distance apart from when they put the drink down which took all of 3 seconds. My risk assessment of the situation told me I wouldn't be catching or spreading covid there.
