Inaporopriate corona testing

Its in BBC news today is that some of the shortage is due to ppl getting tested incorrectly, therefore affecting those who really need testing.

Examples given-

A school that insisted on a whole tear group being tested.

People who want tested before they go on holiday.

Those getting tested after the holiday in a quarantine area as the person doesnt want to quarantine and thinks a neg test negates quarantine.

I know 3 people who got back from Spain waited 5 days took a test and declared themself well

Yes. That's ridiculous. However, I got myself tested when my only symptom was a sore throat. It was positive.

To travel to Cyprus you have to produce a negative COVID test on arrival, and this must have been given within the last 72 hours. No matter how many times I (and many others) plead with people on the various Facebook pages set up to regarding people's desire to travel to Cyprus, many tourists are still taking up these valuable tests.

I've had a sore throat for 2 weeks now, it feels swollen, but isn't like tonsillitis. I keep getting told not to test as no other symptoms.

It wasn't visibly sore, but felt sore further down as if it was on fire. It lasted two days. No symptoms day 3 thought I was better, then got the positive result 😞. From then on it turned into a sinus cold. Went by day 7

My mother told me earlier she finds it ridiculous that the government hasn't provided enough tests so that anyone could have one when they wanted just in case. No reason but because they feel like it. And it should be done by a qualified person.

Great in theory... But a bit impractical currently.

Some people doing 'inappropriate testing' are getting positive results though.

e.g. group of teenagers returning from Greek island just before it was added to the quarantine list. If they hadn't been tested (no symptoms) they'd be spreading the virus through the local community...

How does the government know people are testing when they don't have symptoms? Is it just hearsay? I would have thought people would have had to give their symptoms when asking for a test. Why were people given a test when they didn't have symptoms? I'm confused.

my son has a sore throat he often has strep throat i mean 6-8 times a year even post tonsil removal normally GP prescribes antibiotics at the point where he can't swallow and it gets better.
Today the GP told DH that DC2 needed to come home and we all need tests. But when you try to book a test it says only book if you have these symptoms and none of us do, but we've booked as GP said to,
