Anyone tested a baby?

Not that I can get a home test at the minute! But baby had a high temp and now had quite a gnarly cough, if I can get a home test are they fit for all ages? Have tried googling but couldn’t find the info.
I can’t drive to a centre and the walk in ones are a bit far as have a 4 year old in tow.
Thanks for any advice.

Think you just do their noses

Thanks. My partner is taking time off tomorrow and arranged drive through test via his hospital, but apparently they can’t do babies!

Did my 15month old on Monday. Didn’t even try to do tonsils just did both nostrils. He hated it. Husband had to hold him down whilst I did it: he couldn’t look at me after 😩 still waiting for result.... kit says suitable for under 5s and to do both nostrils if tonsils not possible.

God sounds stressful for you! Thanks for the info. I wonder why home tests are fine but not a drive thru one hmmm..

I did one the other day, still waiting for results so god knows if I did it well enough! As others have said, you just do both nostrils. DS wasn't particularly impressed but didn't cry. Hardest thing is that it says to blow nose first because snot on the swab can interfere with the results.

@Spam88 I’m really worried about the snot thing: how do You get a baby to blow their nose? I did my best with a cotton bud first but DS swab was quite snotty: anyone heard back from a snotty swab? (Sentence I never thought I’d write!!)

We took 16 month old DS to a drive through test centre last month. I just swabbed the nostrils, but I didn't know about snot interfering with the test! His had some on it when I had finished. He car me back as testing negative (which I expected).

I did 7m old DS2, strapped in the carseat.
It was fine, I wiped his nose then did both his nostrils (he cried), then I gave him a carrot puff and he was happy again.
A younger baby would probably be happy with a boob/bottle after.

We asked about snot and they said it would be fine.

@Gibbus and @Camomila that’s good to know thanks. Our house is on the market and first viewings booked this Saturday: I’d accept having to cancel for a positive but would be very annoyed to have to cancel because of an inconclusive snotty swab!!!
