Anyone know if extracurricular activities outside of school are still permitted?

My daughters swimming lessons and tennis club have restarted and gymnastics starts back next week. I know that football and rugby clubs are training. I think it depends on the individual organisations.

Think we'll have to wait for the government press conference at 4 today and them publishing the new law (probably just after the conference).

We've got gymnastics back at the moment but that's it.

All official youth groups (like Guiding and Scouting, plus lots of others) are led by the National Youth Agency and so are awaiting the outcome of their discussions with the government.

I run a business which provides activities like these. We are hoping that everything that previously had specific guidance available will be able to proceed on those grounds.
They have already listed 'education' and 'team sports' as exceptions but I would hope other things can go ahead too, don't know for sure though.

It seems to be a crack down on 'socialising' which most - not all - of these things are not. I would say things like scouts/brownies are a bit more of a grey area.

ps notwithstanding the latest developments then yes they definitely were but there are problems with venues especially schools and churches. Such places are reluctant to let out spaces unless they can be absolutely sure that they are thoroughly cleaned etc afterwards.

DDs swimming has been back about 6 weeks, each bubble is only 4 swimmers ie 1 bubble per lane. Starting positions alternated so no bubbles are next to each other. I'm hoping the fact that individual bubbles are small that they'll be able to continue. The club takes covid very seriously and everything has been organised really well.

DD9 was just about to restart cubs with smaller numbers and being based outside. I'm hoping that can carry on but I fear it might not be able to now. I do understand the need to take action to stop cases spiking again but it is going to be really disappointing if they have to put things on hold again.

Ours have re started (dance and tennis) but that was before the change of the rules announced yesterday. Given they are paid for and can be claimed as “covid secure” I am guessing they will be fine but we still do not know

We will have to see.

Some of our clubs had restarted, hopefully they're classed as organised team sports and will continue.

Generally clubs are quite controlled and well organised.

I am holding off paying for my little girl's dance class until after tonight's briefing!

I paid for 4 private lessons last month to get her used to being back, plus a new uniform as she's grown out of the one I bought in March which she wore twice. She refuses the Zoom lessons and they won't refund.

More than anything I just want her to be able to dance again Sad

Well it seems team sports and gyms still ok but not exactly crystal clear for things like dance classes, fitness or gymnastics. I do hope these can continue but I can also see the obvious issues with groups of children from different schools all mixing indoors over autumn/ winter.

The faq have come through and it’s quite clear.
If it comes under education or children or exercise is fine
www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-outbreak-faqs-what-you-can-and-cant-do/coronavirus-outbreak-faqs-what-you-can-and-cant-do

Is a bit more woolly about grown ups activity groups though that aren’t sport
