Ds's drama group was due to restart. Educational therefore go ahead? Or social therefore no?

They're publishing details tomorrow, I don't know! Could be considered educational I guess? They haven't just said "schools".

DD’s swimming lessons were also due to restart next weekend. DS’s athletics club has also restarted - who knows?!

I wonder if my spin classes at the gym will still be allowed?

I was wondering the same but about music activities - orchestras and such like. Just about to start up again. Dammit!

Ds just started swimming again on Saturday. Due to start drama next week. I have paid for both for the whole term. Really hoping they will go ahead but suspect not. Not looking forward to.explaining that one to ds.

Our poor kids are so excited to get back to drama and dance. I really hope they can still do them.

I don't 'think' these will be affected.

You are not meeting with others.

Its unlikely that these are where you will catch the virus.

Meeting up with friends - you could easily catch the virus.

I suspect/hope anything that is “paid for” and therefore helps the economy will be allowed to go ahead.

Isn’t it to stop people saying ‘all back to mine’ after the pub

I’m wondering this too, about to go back to socatots and forest school with my toddler and hoping they don’t get banned before we even start!

SO sport can continue but not music and drama etc...

We need to acknowledge that school already puts children at a higher level of social interaction that the vast majority of adults and therefore it may well make sense to restrict activities for children while allowing the same activities to go ahead for adults.

It talks of social gatherings so I was assuming paid for stuff like classes didn’t count as not social but guidance is to be issued tomorrow

Report
KindKylie · 08/09/2020 23:51

This is my worry too.

Do they count as education? Or team sports?

If not, what a disaster!!

My suspicion is the exemption will be for organised activities that are part of a large organisation. So that will be organisated sport but also anything that is signed up as an affiliate to the National Youth Agency government body (eg Scouts and Guides). That probably won't include other more independent groups such as swimming lessons etc.

It remains to be confirmed and im speculating here but the way in which things were worded on the BBC article suggests that there is a list of exemptions that are longer than the ones they had in the article.

I may well be wrong but thats how im reading it.

I have to say the new law doesn't sound wildly different from the previous guidelines. The only difference is legality.

But masks are mandatory but no one is enforcing. In reality the law is only really as good as enforcement.

The danger here is there are fines of people who test positive at an event of more than 6. That will encourage people not to give details of contacts to PHE because of fear of being fined... It wont stop the meeting from happening in the first place...

Am hoping it won't apply to my drama classes, parents paying in already and we are all excited to start. But think I'm right in saying clubs in heavy lock down areas are running so hoping we will not be affected .
